Welcome back to the Target Zone:
First of all, let me aplologize for the lateness of this newsletter, but, October is here and so is hunting season and I've just returned from the National Forest and 6 straight days of Elk hunting. Needless to say I am excited as these are the first consecutive days off I have had in 2009. What better way to spend them than in the woods. The only thing that would have made it better was if Peggy had joined me. She however, stayed home to hold down the fort. To all of you that will be sharing my passion for the hunt, I wish you a productive and safe hunting experience.
No Elk for me YET! But don't miss the picture below of the opening day 5X6 Bull that Stephanie (our Manager) shot. It is her first Bull and she is very excited. Be sure to congratulate her next time you are in.
A quick reminder, if you want to read any of our previous newsletters, they are available by clicking this link. past newsletters

The interactive gun gallery is becoming very popular. Thank You! Many of you have been searching the link and have accessed over 65,000 items available for you to purchase. Handguns purchased through this site will be available at CTS within two business days.
A major benefit of this online store is that every firearm purchased online is covered by a Lifetime guarantee. click here for gun gallery Kangaroo holsters are in stock and going fast. We may have really found something here as everyone seems to love their function and fit. Keep those great product ideas coming.
Remember, if you are a member who paid the full year at once, you are eligible for 10% off all classes over $50 except CCW classes.
Also, don't forget to tell us if you are 65 years or older as you will get a 10% discount on classes and a reduced range fee.
Quick Update:
An old email about Senate Bill 2099 is floating around again. According to the NRA legislative division "SB2099 died back when Clinton was president." This is not an active piece of legislation.
Utah permits seem to finally be arriving in a timely manner. They are about 50 days out after your check clears or card is charged.
If you have any suggestions or corrections for the new website, or ideas for the newsletter, please email Peggy at [email protected].
Be Safe....

5 Day Comprehensive Handgun Course Scheduled for Dec 4 - 8
Because of your many requests for the 5 day Comprehensive Handgun Class we decided to offer it one last time this year, we have scheduled it for December 4 - 8. We picked these dates to allow the class to be run over a weekend. This should allow students to miss a minimal number of work days. They will also be able to split their days off over two seperate work weeks.
The class is again filling fast. If you have been looking for a way to make dramatic improvements in your handgun shooting skills, this is a must take class. This course is limited in size so we can be sure of the personal attention to each student. You will shoot at least 1500 rounds during the 5 days. This class is for any level of shooter beyond a basic beginner. No matter where you start, you will finish a better shooter.
The class is all about shooting and handgun manipulation. Classroom time is under 6 hours for the entire class which guarantees the student maximum time on the range learning by doing. The course tuition is $500.00. We are very proud of this price as the big named schools charge in excess of $2000.00 for their 5 day courses.
I will put our curriculum and training techniques up against any program anywhere. Remember as is the case with all of our courses, you may repeat this class forever for FREE! I want everyone in this course to finish the week realizing huge improvements in their shooting skills and in the manipulation of their handguns, regardless of where they started out the week. Give this course a try, you won't be sorry! 5-day Comprehensive Class Low-Light Survival Oct 31
Low-Light Survival is the other class offered this time of year here at CTS. You could call this class my "Signature" course as this is the class I teach on all those trips across the country. It is always a pleasure to teach it but never more rewarding than teaching it here in North Idaho. The primary goal of this course is to teach the students how to cope with Low Light or No Light situations. In addition, we will discuss and teach at least 9 methods of holding/deploying a flashlight in coordination with a firearm. Through the use of classroom presentation and practical exercises the students will develop skills and confidence in their ability to safely engage targets in the dark. Building search techniques, non-verbal low light communication tactics, and target identification/selection will be applied throughout the course. Topics covered will include: Light in the tactical world, Light & your eyes, Human factors, Visual patience, Equipment essentials, light as a force option, Movement with light, and Live fire exercises. The AR'S Keep Coming......
The AR Pro Shop continues to grow in products stocked and services offered. For the first time in a long time we actually have Next Generation AR's on the shelf. These Extreme Use AR's continue to be in high demand. The fact that we are the area's exclusive dealer has allowed us to get access to product.
It is our goal to establish ourselves as the ultimate AR Pro Shop in the region. As we are receiving parts on a daily basis please feel free to request any inventory item you may want.
Next Generation Arms - Do Not overlook the Next Generation line of rifles if you are considering an AR purchase. I am convinced there is no other AR available that can match these rifles for quality, function, accuracy, etc... Their new MP168 is guaranteed 1/2 MOA. Most are shooting 1/4 MOA with 69 or 72 grn bullets.
We stand ready to service, modify or even build any AR platform you need.

The Machine Gun Photo Shoot Is Back
Due to the overwhelming success of the last machine gun photo shoot we have decided to do it again. It will take place on Saturday Nov 14th from 10am to 5 pm. This is a great opportunity for you to get a beautiful professional photograph of you or a family member shooting a full-auto machine gun.
Last year over 60 families or individuals took advantage of this offer. Don't miss out and plan ahead for a great exciting experience forever preserved in a photo taken by Michael Notar of Shutterworks Photography. |
Concealed Carry Class CLARIFICATION
I feel very strongly about our CCW courses and the comprehensive level of instruction we provide. We go way beyond the minimum requirements of both Idaho and Utah. We always have and we always will. In fact, Utah only requires 4 hours of instruction -We Require 8. Idaho and Utah do not require any shooting - We Do! I believe any student that has not documented proficiency with their firearm is at a tremendous disadvantage during any litigation. Another reason for the comprehensive level of our curriculum is that you and I are forever joined in this CCW arena. I will testify on your behalf for free if those services are ever needed. I want to be able to provide the most professional and complete defense possible. The shooting requirement and qualification requirement of my classes is but one way we accomplish this level of defense. I know many people just want to get the permit and believe they understand what is required or necessary for the use of deadly force. They do not want to spend the time in class because they already know everything about CCW laws and the legal processes from investigation to trial. To those of you that feel that way I guess our CCW programs are not for you. I will bet that if you ask anyone who fits the above criteria they would also tell you it would be impossible for an Idahoan to spend over $200,000.00 defending his shooting of a dog that was actively attacking him and his dog. That's right, no criminal charges filed yet my client spent in excess of 200 grand to win a civil suit against him. I believe there is no substitute for an accurate, complete, and factual understanding of the law, firearm capabilities, and all matters surrounding the tremendous responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon. If you feel the same way then our CCW programs are for you.
We will continue to offer the most comprehensive CCW programs available in the region. The 8 hour Idaho CCW, the 8 hour Utah CCW and for those of you that took the 8 Hour Idaho class you may take the Utah 4 hour course and by-pass the need to shoot again as you already qualified in the prequisite Idaho course. |

Personal Protection Considerations
Over the last few months I have offered a number of Shooting Tips in this section. Many of you have asked for some personal safety tips. So, I thought why not offer some generic considerations that may help keep you and your family safe.
Of course, if you have ever taken a defensive or CCW course from me you know how important I believe AWARENESS is. The single most important thing you can do to keep yourself safe is to raise your level of awareness. We must understand that an attack can occur in almost any situation and for a variety of reasons.
Self control is an often overlooked deterrent to violence or conflict. Many fights or arguments begin as a result of someone saying something offensive, or stupid. Advice a teacher gave me many years ago may just be the solution here "Think before you speak".
I am still amazed at how many people believe that as adults we fight "fair". Trust me, we left those days behind when we graduated school. As adults we are often subjected to multiple attackers with weapons. Speaking of weapons, keep an open mind. Many very useful weapons can be found within your home or place of business. Weapons of opportunity may just be your salvation. Give some consideration to the items around you and think of how they may be used as a weapon. Items such as pens, rolled up magazines, keys, credit cards, wasp spray and so on can be very effective.
Most attacks occur in diminished light. CARRY a quality flashlight at all times! Don't be in dark and secluded places alone. If possible try to always go with at least one other person or a group. Avoid stairwells when alone and don't be afraid to skip stepping into an elevator if the person inside makes you uncomfortable. Never go to the restroom in a bar or restaurant alone.
70% of convicted felons stated "they would not have initiated their attack if their victim would have verbally expressed their willingness to resist". Use your command voice. If attacked in public, scream - yell and do it all with a loud deep voice. Yell, "NO! Get away! Leave me alone!" Don't be afraid to swear, cuss loudly, or call the attacker ugly names.
The mere thought of someone attempting to hurt you should make your blood boil. If you can avoid trouble by all means do it. If someone wants to bind you or take you away, it must end there. Never allow that to happen to you. If someone is willing to hurt you in a public place, think what they would do to you in a secluded place.
Bottom line, raise your level of awareness and refuse to be a victim.
Be Safe...
