Welcome back to the Target Zone:
September brings that early morning chill that reminds the hunters among us that the woods are calling. This morning it finds me sitting in the Spokane airport waiting for my flight to Boston as I will be teaching in Rhode Island this week. But the biggest news this September is it marks the arrival of our new website. We are all very excited that it went live on August 30th and hope that you find it to be informative and easy to navigate. You will find a lot of new information presented on pages that should be easier to read and understand. Now you can access all our archived newsletters. Just click on the newsletter link and enjoy. www.centertargetsports.com We have added interactive video links and a link to our online mega gun store. You can now click on the online gun search link and have access to over 65,000 items available for you to purchase. Handguns purchased through this site will be available at CTS within two business days. A major benefit of this online store is that every firearm purchased online is covered by a Lifetime guarantee. click here for gun gallery Kangaroo holsters will now be available in the retail area. Don't miss the article below on these very unique and versatile concealment holsters. We continue to receive the Next Generation Extreme Use AR's. If you have not shot this amazing AR system you should. I have never experienced an AR platform that routinely fires up to 2,000 rds without oil and cleaning. Don't take my word for it, go online and Google the Next Generation Rifles and read the many "User" forums. A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the US Senator Crapo event held at the range. It was an awesome success. I know the Senator and his staff were pleased and it sure looked like all who attended had a great time. It sure is nice to have a gentleman like Senator Crapo representing us in Washington. This was my first time to meet the Senator and I must say it was an honor and privilege to offer our facility in support for all he is trying to do for Idaho. Senator Crapo is a genuine guy who likes to shoot and he shoots well. In fact, he won 3rd place in the "Crapo Top Gun" competition that saw the Senator running and gunning through an "IDPA like" course. Over the last weekend many of you asked "is that John Farnam in there?" Yes it was. For the second year in a row John accepted our invitation to teach at CTS. John and his students had a great time. John is truly the number one defensive HG instructor in the world and for North Idaho area shooters to take instruction from him is an experience you will not soon forget. Thank you all for supporting our sponsorship of John. Not sure if you know it or not, but we don't make a dime on John's class. We bring him here for our students to have the opportunity to experience the best available HG instruction. There are many imitators out there but only one John Farnam.
Quick Update:
An old email about Senate Bill 2099 is floating around again. According to the NRA legislative division "SB2099 died back when Clinton was president." This is not an active piece of legislation.
As of today we have 3 Minuteman and 1 Tactical Next Generation AR in stock...
Utah permits seem to be arriving approximately 70 days after your check clears or card is charged.
Be Safe....

TACTICAL PISTOL SCHEDULED THIS MONTH We are excited to offer the 2-day Tactical Pistol Course this month. This is a course that is only offered a couple of times a year. It is the class that puts all the skills developed in the prerequisite courses to the ultimate test. Day one of this class is a very intense 6 hrs on the range after approximately 2 hrs in the classroom. Day 2 finds the students off-site in a warehouse or vacant building of some type that allows the students to face off in real gunfight scenarios. Of course, simulation firearms are used in these strictly run and debriefed scenarios. This is not a Paintball free for all. The role players are very closely scripted and each student is debriefed after each scenario. Oh, and did I mention that the entire 2nd day is conducted in total darkness? It is. The only light you have in the scenarios is the light in your hand or mounted on the gun. This class affords the students more gun fighting skills development and firearm manipulation than that experienced by more than 95% of local law enforcement. One major concern of ours at this time is a location for the off-site training. We recently lost both of the facilities we normally have access to. So if you know of a building that would work (the bigger the better) please let us know. We will be shooting airsoft firearms so there is no danger of damage and the building owners would have no indication we were ever in their facility after we clean up. I would prefer a vacant warehouse or office type of building but again, beggars can't be choosers. |
SEEING PINK?? Is it just me or have you noticed more pink around the store. I guess it was inevitable, I should have expected it, having hired a female manager and all. Well the fact is I did expect it. It is one of the reasons Peggy and I are so excited about Stephanie as our manager. She brings so much to our facility, operation and leads our team beyond our expectations. The PINK I am referring to is literally the Pink firearms, ear muffs, shooting bags and just about any accessory you might think of. Stephanie has heard the call from many of you and she is delivering. I must admit, I was a little apprehensive when she brought in the first Pink Digital Cammo P-22. However, I was a believer when the gun sold within one day. Look for more pink items in the store and of course more items that appeal specifically to our many woman shooters. (Have you seen the gun and target earrings?) If you have any suggestions, let Steph know. Don't forget these items make great presents!

Meet Ken Cramer... Thanks to all of you, we continue to grow our business both in volume and in personnel which leads me to this introduction. Please take the time to meet our newest employee Ken Cramer. Ken is an awesome fit to our team. He may look a little familiar to some of you as he comes to us from Cabelas. Ken is retired after 33 years in Law Enforcement. Ken was responsible for his department's firearms training program and is a very experienced firearms instructor in his own right. He is a wealth of knowledge and always eager to share it. Don't hesitate to ask Ken for advice or assistance in any way. Many of you will be talking to Ken on a regular basis as he is responsible for monitoring and coordinating all the class registrations and student movements within classes. |
The AR'S Keep Coming......
The AR Pro Shop continues to grow in products stocked and services offered. For the first time in a long time we actually have Next Generation AR's on the shelf. These Extreme Use AR's continue to be in high demand. The fact that we are the area's exclusive dealer has allowed us to get access to product.
It is our goal to establish ourselves as the ultimate AR Pro Shop in the region. As we are receiving parts on a daily basis please feel free to request any inventory item you may want.
We stand ready to service, modify or even build any AR platform you need.

The KANGAROO HAS ARRIVED!
The Kangaroo has arrived. As you all know, we are trying to develop an inventory of products unique to the concealed carry and personal defense lifestyles. It is our intent to build the CTS reputation as the only place in town for concealed carry, personal defense and AR guns and accessories. In that regard we are proud to announce the arrival of the Kangaroo line of concealment holsters. I have to thank Meloni, a member who contacted me about these holsters asking for an opinion. I have to admit, I didn't know much about them. So I started researching them and was very excited to read so much positive commentary about this somewhat deep concealment style of holster.

UTAH CCW CLARIFICATION
Some of you have mentioned the Nickels' Worth ad we ran for a couple of weeks explaining why we do not combine the Utah and Idaho CCW classes. I want to expand on my explanation here as I don't have to pay by the word. First and foremost we CANNOT combine any additional states curriculum with the UTAH CCW curriculum. That practice is specifically forbidden by the state of Utah. Utah will revoke instructor privileges/certification of any instructor that combines courses. I feel very strongly about our CCW courses and the comprehensive level of instruction we provide. We go way beyond the minimum requirements of both Idaho and Utah. We always have and we always will. In fact, Utah only requires 4 hours of instruction -We Require 8. Idaho and Utah do not require any shooting - We Do! I believe any student that has not documented proficiency with their firearm is at a tremendous disadvantage during any litigation. Another reason for the comprehensive level of our curriculum is that you and I are forever joined in this CCW arena. I will come and testify on your behalf for free if those services are ever needed. I want to be able to provide the best most professional and complete defense possible. The shooting requirement and qualification requirement of my classes is but one way we accomplish this level of defense. I know many people just want to get the permit and believe they understand what is required or necessary for the use of deadly force. They do not want to spend the time in class because they already know everything about CCW laws and the legal processes from investigation to trial. To those of you that feel that way I guess our CCW programs are not for you. I will bet that if you ask anyone who fits the above criteria they would also tell you it would be impossible for an Idahoan to spend over $200,000.00 defending his shooting of a dog that was actively attacking him and his dog. That's right, no criminal charges filed yet my client spent in excess of 200 grand to win a civil suit against him. I believe there is no substitute for an accurate, complete, and factual understanding of the law, firearm capabilities, and all matters surrounding the tremendous responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon. If you feel the same way then our CCW programs are for you.
We will continue to offer the most comprehensive CCW programs available in the region. The 8 hour Idaho CCW, the 8 hour Utah CCW and for those of you that took the 8 Hour Idaho class you may take the Utah 4 hour course and by-pass the need to shoot again as you already qualified in the prequisite Idaho course. |

SHOOTING SPORTS SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS... This month we have a shooting safety tip that is more about your health and well being than my traditional street oriented personal safety. With hunting season just around the corner and many more people reloading their own ammunition and a huge increase in the number of people participating in shooting activities, I feel the time is right. I want to talk about cleanliness and hygiene when it involves shooting and shooting related activities such as reloading. First and foremost "Wash Your Hands"! I know, sounds a lot like mom doesn't it? Well it often comes down to the simple things. Washing your hands and blowing your nose after shooting or reloading can have a major impact on your health. I remember in the Army during extended stays in the field, leaders at every level were always making sure that the troops were changing their socks daily. Clean healthy feet kept the Army moving. Well as we participate in the shooting sports and related activities we need to be aware of the associated safety risks and our health. Whether you shoot indoors or outdoors, reload your own ammunition or use factory ammo, shoot a small caliber handgun, magnum rifle or shotgun, the risks of accidental discharge, lead exposure, and safety in general must always be considered. In addition to washing your hands and blowing your nose after shooting or handling ammunition, stay away from food or drinks when actively shooting. I recently visited a friend who was reloading hunting rounds for the upcoming season. As we visited and he continued to reload, he would pick up a handful of sunflower seeds and dump them in his mouth between every 4 or five rounds loaded. I could not believe what I was observing. When I brought it to his attention, he responded with "don't be so paranoid, it is no big deal". It is a big deal, don't eat or drink without washing first. If you find yourself in the shooting environment often, you should discuss ways to stay healthy with your physician. Shooters and researchers alike have said that a calcium supplement can be very effective in helping your body resist the accumulation of lead and other heavy metals. I am not recommending this but suggest you discuss the effectiveness with your doctor.
