Welcome back to the Target Zone:
I don't know about you but, this turn in the weather has me thinking hunting. I am determined to spend at least a few days in the woods this season. It would be nice to add a little meat to the freezer.
Thanks to your support, Center Target continues to experience growth in every aspect of our business. Peggy and I and the staff are committed to offering the best services, products and facility possible. Thank you all for your continued patronage.
We are very excited about the return of John Farnam. If you are signed up for John's class you are in for a treat. If not, there are a few slots left.
Because of our relationship with Next Generation we are fortunate enough to have 3 Minuteman models in stock. These entry level models are the first we have seen in months. If you are looking to purchase a Next Generation but can't justify the higher end models, the Minuteman will allow you to have an extreme environment AR that can be accessorized later.
Just a word on Target placement. Please place your targets on the target backers at a height appropiate for the shooter. Parents, please take into account the height of the target at various ranges as your child shoots them. If the target is close, often times the youth shooters end up shooting into the ceiling.
Please keep us in mind for training classes that are not gun related. We teach CPR, First Aid, Kubaton, Refuse to be a Victim, OC (Pepper Spray), and many others.
Give us a call if we can help you in any way.
Quick Update:
As of today we have 3 Minuteman and 1 Tactical Next Generation AR in stock...
Utah permits seem to be arriving approximately 90 days after your check clears or card is charged. Be Safe....

OUR FIRST
FREE MEMBERS ONLY
On July 26th we offered our first of what we hope to be a new tradition at CTS the FREE members only FUN SHOOT.
I believe everyone who attended had a great time. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to share my thoughts on the course of fire I set up. We had all experience levels represented in the first month's participants.
This will be a regular feature available only to our members that we are trying to schedule on the 3rd Sunday of each month, but check our calendar each month as the first one was on the fourth Sunday!
Shooting will start at 8am and will be over before noon so you all can still make the afternoon church service of your choice. Come and challenge your skills in a controlled environment sharing the experience exclusively with other Center Target Sports members and me. We will have coffee available for everyone. The format will be very low-stress. My goal is to have an event that everyone can participate in and share a great learning experience. I will always be available for questions and to help in any way. Please join us to make this a great added value to all of you our members. Make sure you bring your membership card! |

FIRST AID AND CPR with AED NOW OFFERED Basic Life Support and CPR Certification as well as an overview on the use of the AED is now part of our regular curriculum. Peggy and I are really excited about the opportunity to broaden our course offerings with this American Heart Association Certified Course. This course is available to private groups or companies by special arrangement. Many companies/business are able to reduce their insurance premiums or in some cases they may be required by law to provide instruction to their employees. We will be more than happy to offer this program on location, or in-house to accommodate your needs. |
SPECIAL ORDERS Are A Service We Provide...
A component of providing exceptional customer service is the processing of SPECIAL ORDERS. However, we have decided to charge a Non-refundable deposit on special orders totalling over $100.00. This has not been a an easy decision for us but last month alone we processed and brought in 10 special orders that were not picked up by the customer. The customers ordered the items but when they were notified that their product was in they indicated they no longer wanted the items.
We hope you understand that we have no alternative but to require a deposit on those unique high dollar items. We encourage all of you to allow us to help you find those hard to get items. Stephanie and the staff stand ready to assist...

NIGHTHAWK
It all started when Mike, a student and friend went on a quest for the "Ultimate 1911". When he asked for my opinion and it became clear to me that he was comitted to purchasing the best, I recommended a Mark Morris custom pistol crafted in North Central Washington. The reason for that recommendation was simple. The Morris handmade pistol was simply the finest 1911 I had ever shot to date. Beware that perfection comes with a very high price tag.
However, that all changed when Mike chose a Nighthawk Custom pistol and we facilitated the transfer. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. I could not believe the quality and craftsmanship of the Nighthawk. These guns are flawless and it was easy to see why they are being talked about so much in our industry. I would have never believed it possible to even approach this level of craftsmanship and quality in a production gun.
As you know we are always striving to provide that "special" service and product inventory that sets us apart from the competition. In being true to that philosophy, we began our efforts to be the exclusive Nighthawk dealer in the region.
Success... We are now a prefered dealer and will soon have a Nighthawk custom in the rental case. Every gun is custom crafted so our rental gun is in the works and will soon be available. As of this printing we have 4 Nighthawk Customs in the case for sale.
If you want to experience the very best the 1911 platform has to offer, stop in and handle a gun that goes way beyond the dream of John Browning's original design. Better yet come in and shoot the rental....it will be available any day now. |
The AR'S Keep Coming......
The AR Pro Shop continues to grow in products stocked and services offered. For the first time in a long time we actually have Next Generation AR's on the shelf. These Extreme Use AR's continue to be in high demand. The fact that we are the areas exclusive dealer has allowed us to get access to product.
It is our goal to establish ourselves as the ultimate AR Pro Shop in the region. As we are receiving parts on a daily basis please feel free to request any inventory item you may want.
We stand ready to service, modify or even build any AR platform you need.

NATIONAL CCW PERMIT
ALMOST MADE IT!
Wow did we get close. In a rare win for gun-control advocates, the Senate on Wednesday rejected a measure allowing people with concealed-weapon permits in one state to also hide their firearms when visiting another state. The vote was 58-39 in favor of the provision establishing concealed-carry permit reciprocity in the 48 states that have concealed-weapons laws. That fell two votes short of the 60 needed to approve the measure, offered as an amendment to a defense spending bill.
Virginia Sen's Jim Webb and Mark Warner supported the measure. Some relatives of victims of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting opposed it. Opponents prevailed in their argument that the measure violated states' rights by forcing states with stringent requirements for permits to recognize concealed-weapons carriers from states that give out permits to almost any gun owner.
"This is no minor shift in policy," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., whose state requires people to be fingerprinted, get gun training and to undergo a federal background check before issuing permits. "It in fact would be a sweeping change and I think with some deadly consequences." The vote reversed recent trends in which Republicans and gun-rights Democrats from rural states have joined to push pro-gun-rights issues and block gun-control legislation.
Congress this year voted to restore the rights of people to carry loaded weapons into national parks, and the Senate moved to effectively eviscerate the gun-control laws of the District of Columbia. That move followed the U.S. Supreme Court's 5-4 ruling in June 2008 that the sweeping ban on handguns violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
Congress has also ignored urgings from President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to revive a ban on military-style weapons that expired in 2004. The concealed-weapons measure, promoted by the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America, would have made a concealed-weapon permit from one state valid in the 47 other states with permit laws. Only Wisconsin and Illinois have no carry permit laws.
Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., the sponsor, said it would not provide for a national carry permit, and that a visitor to another state would have to obey the limitations of that state, such as bans on concealed weapons in restaurants or other places. "Law-abiding individuals have the right to self-defense," even when they cross state lines, Thune said, citing the example of truck drivers who need to protect themselves as they travel.
Opponents, however, said the 48 states with permits have a broad range of conditions for obtaining those permits: Some such as Alaska and Vermont give permits to almost all gun owners. Others, such as New York, have firearm training requirements and exclude people with drinking problems or criminal records.
Kevin Hall, a spokesman for Warner, noted that Virginia already has some form of reciprocity agreement for concealed carry with 25 other states. Warner voted for the amendment "after determining it would do nothing to weaken Virginia's current conceal-carry law," he said.
Webb said he has empathy for victims of gun violence such as the Tech shootings and has worked to address concerns raised by that incident, such as privacy restrictions on mental health records and improving instant background checks. "I also believe very strongly that the violence we see on our streets and in our neighborhoods must be addressed, but very little of that violence has ever been caused by those who seek permits to carry," he said. "Few criminals are going to go down to the county courthouse and file for a permit."

ORIGINAL SWAT
BOOTS In Stock...
If a comfortable, durable and reasonably priced boot is what you are looking for, don't fail to checkout our large selection of ORIGINAL SWAT Boots. Our customers are always telling us that they can't believe how comfortable these boots are. Come in and see for yourself.
Below is an explanation of SWAT'S Cornerstones of Comfort & Performance. In creating the Original SWAT brand, comfort and performance were the objectives. To squeeze as much out of each area without compromise is the boot maker's art.
Key Elements of Comfort
The Last
The Last All Original S.W.A.T. footwear has one common root; they are all made on the same boot last. Regardless of the outsole design or the upper pattern, all Original S.W.A.T. boots are made on the same last. The last is the form around which the boot is constructed. It gives shape and structure and contributes significantly to the fit and comfort of the boot.
Each company uses its own last and therefore, all boots fit differently. The S.W.A.T. last was developed using the most modern computer-aided-design technology. This modern approach has enabled them to most accurately reflect the needs of today's end user. The Materials The quality of materials and components makes a difference in performance & durability. High performance linings are important as they have to wick significant amounts of moisture away from the feet, approximately 1 pint every 3 hours. The appropriate use of 1000 nylon and breathable full grain leather facilitate this process. The heat formed heel counter is the most important component, ensuring the stability of the foot, and preventing slippage laterally and lengthwise. Lack of stability is the major cause of fatigue and injury. Shock Absorption Capacity In a standing position, 50% of our weight is on the heel; this is increased by a factor of 3 or 4 when walking or running is undertaken. Shock absorbing materials can therefore play a big part in preventing fatigue and injury. There are several types of materials that can be used for shock absorption. We currently use two types, compression molded EVA and air. Compression Molded EVA is an inch of closed cell foam-injected under pressure. This by far is the most durable and effective material available for shock absorption. It does not hold memory and gives the wearer total foot support. This cushioning system is used in many different black boots as well as athletic shoes.
Support Support comes from a riveted sandwich lasting board that contains a steel or synthetic shank, providing both torsional and arch support, which are important where foot strike angles are uneven and extra weight is being carried. A removable contour molded innersole complete the support process, ensuring that the smaller muscles of the foot do no have to work excessively under extreme performance conditions. The Key Elements of Performance
Lightweight "To improve performance in the athletic sphere, footwear needs to be as light as possible, without sacrificing its functional integrity. Closure Systems Laces, metal hardware and zippers Functionally, the lacing system provides the last step in ensuring the foot is correctly seated and stable. Flat laces are not quite as convenient as round, but are far superior in regard to performance - particularly slippage. "Speed lace" metal hardware is most useful in the top 4 or 5 eyelets, after the bottom eyelets have been cinched in place using a "locking" eyelet. 5mm (tooth size) zippers from YKK® more than meet the burst strength requirement, and have good flexibility. The 10mm tooth is less flexible and prone to snapping under pressure.

SOME THOUGHTS ON POINT SHOOTING, "INSTINCTIVE FIRE," and other UNSIGHTED or MID-SEQUENCE FIRING METHODS So-called "point shooting," "instinctive firing," and other combat handgun aiming techniques are often misunderstood or misinterpreted. What I am referring to is handgun shooting techniques that do not have the shooter consciously acquiring the sights of the handgun at the moment of firing. These are either unsighted or mid-sequence firing methods. They can be termed as unsighted as they do not intentionally make use of the sights of the pistol, at least in terms of focus. I use the term mid-sequence as this refers to any handgun firing technique or position of the weapon upon discharge where the handgun was either not up to the shooter's line of sight, or was brought up to the line of sight, but did not receive focus on the sights, or was performed at some point during a natural draw stroke. There are various names and techniques that describe this genre of shooting. Part of the confusion and subsequent controversy may lie in the fact that there are so many different techniques, names, methods, and variations. With this in mind, it is often easy to overlook the practicality or utility of any given technique. Certainly, no one technique can work in every situation or for every shooter. Some situations where a handgun firing technique that does not permit full extension, front sight focus, or a conventional two-handed weaver or isosceles technique may be necessary when the shooter must fire immediately from the holster or drawn position. The shooter may have to react very quickly in very close quarters, where extension of the weapon is not feasible or would risk losing retention of the handgun. Some examples would be a stairway, when carrying a heavy load, or when in a vehicle and the weapon can't be brought up to the line of sight. POINTERS ON POINT SHOOTING: Some components of the unsighted shot or mid-sequence engagement that you should consider are having the handgun in the field of view or cone of vision. Ideally, you should have the handgun (and thus the sights) up to the line of sight. Have what I often refer to as a "Dynamic Grip" and bore alignment with the shooter's forearm, with the axis of the bore parallel to the forearm, especially in the case of one-handed shooting. Even rearward pressure on the trigger, with the uptake of trigger slack continuous on the draw stroke and throughout the extension, where the shot breaks right at the moment of full extension of the handgun to where it is aligned on the target. Keep the eyes focused on the target, preferably on a pinpoint object or other part of the opponent in the vital area, synchronized with the trigger press, giving a finite point by which to ensure hand-eye coordination. If possible, fire the gun in one motion, with one set of synchronized muscular contractions. Don't shove the gun, as this may cause jerking or bucking of the gun, lock the wrist and the elbow(s) if possible. Don't limit all firing to one unsighted or mid-draw position. The shooter may be able to engage with the first or a few follow-up shots, then attempt to finish firing at a more stable or sighted position. With any shooting where the handgun is not within the line-of-sight to the target, the shooter will need to establish muscle memory and subconscious memory to ensure that the technique will work under stress, particularly if hand-eye coordination and support of the weapon of more necessary dependent on the exact technique anticipated. As with any technique, perfect practice makes perfect skill sets. Good luck.
