Welcome back to the Target Zone:
Here we are again the beginning of a new month and a new newsletter. Wouldn't you just know that again I start writing these articles in an airport on my way to teach in Miami. This time it is a special treat for me as I will get to visit my sister and her husband who live in Ft.Lauderdale. While we are on the family thing, a special thank you to all of you who sent your thoughts and prayers to Peggy on the loss of her father in May. As the summer and all of the activity it brings to our lives becomes more obvious every day, we are excited about the events we have planned for you. First on the list is the return of John Farnam here at CTS. He will be teaching his Advanced Defensive Handgun Course here in August. Friends, don't let the August date put you off from registering in this class today. In my opinion, John Farnam is the number one Defensive Handgun Instructor in the country if not the World. We have a lot of interest in this class and enrollment is strictly limited. CTS does not get a percentage of John's course fees. My motivation in bringing John to our area is first for my students to experience an instructor of John's experience and quality, second to offer the shooting enthusiasts in our region the opportunity to take a John Farnam class without the expense of travel, hotels and restaurants. John's class is designed for shooters of every level. Don't be intimidated to register for this class. Make time in your schedule, register while there is still room and let's have another good showing for John. Don't forget about the RELOADING class and the Advanced Carbine class this month. The reloading class is taught by Jim Parman and you do not want to miss the opportunity to learn from a reloader of his experience. The Advanced Carbine course will again be taught at Fernan Outdoor Range. Many thanks again to the Fernan Rod and Gun Club for their continued support. Having the ability to offer this course and challenge students at the distances that an outdoor range makes available to us adds so much to my program and the quality of instruction in general. Please take every opportunity to support the Fernan range whenever possible. Because of so many requests last July, we will be open on the 4th of July this year. We will be open from 9am to 4:00 pm and Peggy and I will be holding down the fort. Come in out of the heat and shoot in the AC. Also, don't miss Terminal Ballistics and Defensive Handgun II which are both being offered in July.
A huge thank you to Mike Satren and his son Eric for making the awesome target rack that is now located in the Tactical Bay. This rack will allow me to stroe all the targets we use in our classes on the range. What a savings in time and effort this will be for me and the students. Thank You guys..... You ROCK!!! We are starting to see the availability of guns starting to loosen up. We are getting more guns in on a daily basis. We even have a couple of Next generation AR's in stock. Can you believe it? Again a very heart felt thanks to all of you for making CTS a safe family oriented place to come and enjoy the shooting sports.
LAST MINUTE NOTE:
We have "at least as of today" some Next Generation AR's in stock...
Be Safe....

FREE MEMBERS ONLY FUN SHOOT Scheduled!
We have finally caught up to our schedule and Peggy has scheduled the new MEMBERS ONLY fun shoot for July 26th. This will be a regular feature available only to CTS members that we are trying to schedule on the 3rd Sunday of each month, but check our calendar each month. This is a fun shoot that will change in format every month and will be open to members only and will be free. Shooting will start at 8am and will be over before noon so you all can still make the afternoon church service of your choice. Come and challenge your skills in a controlled environment sharing the experience exclusively with other Center Target Sports members. We will have coffee available for everyone. The format will be very low-stress. My goal is to have an event that everyone can participate in and share a great learning experience. I will always be available for questions and to help in any way. Please join us to make this a great added value to all of you our members.

AND THE WINNER IS...
"Name The Robot" Contest
Wow! What a response to our "Name the Robot" contest. Thanks for all the names you submitted. It was quite a job for the staff to narrow them all down to 2 final names. And the winner is "KILROY". Thanks to Army LTC Craig Dickerson who emailed his submission from Colorado Springs, CO. So let everyone beware of Kilroy. I promise he will challenge you in more ways than you can imagine. Craig will receive a deluxe shooting bag stuffed with all kinds of accessories. Or in his case, perhaps a Gourmet Dinner...The choice is all his.

AR Pro Shop NOW OPEN
It has been a long time in coming. I know many of the quality parts that we are all looking for or want to add to our weapons systems are still in short supply, but at least we are ready to do the work when you get the parts.
We have invested in quality AR Armorer's tools and have purchased the Jiggs and tooling to do a professional job on all of your AR's regardless of brand. I will be doing the majority of the AR work and I am certified by many of the major manufacturers to do every level of work necessary.
We are playing with the idea of a Next Generation platform as a base that I will modify to incorporate what I believe necessary to be the ultimate operational gun and another version that would be the long range "tack driver" system. More on that to follow....
Please think of us for all your AR needs. All my work is guaranteed and priced right. Ed

Bi-Partisan Congressional Majority Moves to Restore Second Amendment in National Parks
Good news from Washington. On Wednesday, NRA-backed legislation to restore the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens in national parks and wildlife refuges passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by an overwhelming bipartisan majority of 279-147. Today, the measure was signed into law and, as specified in the legislation, will take effect in nine months, on February 22, 2010. This was a major repudiation of the gun control community's anti self-defense agenda. The current Department of Interior (DOI) regulations were amended by the Bush Administration in 2008, allowing law-abiding citizens to defend themselves by carrying a concealed firearm in national parks and wildlife refuges. However, early this year, a federal district court in Washington, D.C. granted anti-gun plaintiffs a preliminary injunction against implementation of the new rule. NRA has been working for the past several years in the regulatory, legal, and legislative arenas to achieve this policy change.
"It has been an NRA priority to change the old, outdated rule, and we are pleased that Congress passed this critical legislation," said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox. "This step brings clarity and uniformity for law-abiding gun owners visiting our national parks and wildlife refuges. NRA will continue to pursue every avenue to defend the American people's right of self-defense." The National Park Service's recent report revealed that 11 murders, 35 rapes, 61 robberies and 261 aggravated assaults occurred on parklands in 2006. Our parks also contain hidden methamphetamine labs, marijuana fields and illegal drug and illegal alien smuggling routes. In addition to these dangers and potential attacks from human predators, park visitors have to consider attacks from animal predators. Between April and December 2007 there were at least a dozen grizzly bear attacks reported by park visitors. Today, 31 states allow the carrying of firearms in state parks--all with safe and satisfactory results.

YOU TELL US......
Peggy, Stephanie, and I are always trying to find new products, develop new courses, and offer new programs for you to enjoy. As I travel teaching I always go to shops and ranges looking for new ideas. I think we do a pretty good job but I am always looking for more. So that is where you come in. We are soliciting ideas from you. Please let us know about anything we can bring into CTS. We are moving our suggestion box to a more prominent location for you to access. (On the table by the sofas). Help us stay on top of products that you would like to see us stock. We will do our best to be responsive to all your requests. Thanks!

Rules, Rules, Why the Rules?
Seems like everywhere we go we are faced with those pesky rules. Well, Center Target Sports is no exception. You see, when I conceived, planned, built and opened this State-of-the-Art facility, the safety of my staff, students, and patrons was always my first consideration. When you joined our facility you had expectations of shooting in a SAFE environment. You have our promise that we will always strive to keep our facility as safe as can be. Now that the intro is complete, let me explain why I am writing this article. Lately we have had a select few people violating our safety policies and in many cases when confronted, denying or even lying about what we have observed (and even have on video surveillance tape). This behavior is stressful for our staff, the other patrons and everyone concerned. I am adamant that my staff stay on top of these violations. They are the messengers. The messages they are delivering come from me directly. So you don't think I am going off the deep end here, allow me to share some of what has happened over the last few weeks. We recently had a patron complain about the "smokiness" of a rifle that a shooter was shooting in the next stall. When our staff member questioned the shooter he saw cast lead cartridges (NOT ALLOWED) in the shooters bag. The shooter responded that he had not been shooting them and that he had been shooting reloaded FMJ ammo. The sad part about this incident is that the shooter is a long time member who knows our rules, but chooses to ignore them. Another situation we have had to deal with more frequently lately is violations to the ONE SECOND Rule. We have the one second rule in place to protect people and equipment. The one second rule is not going away and violators will be asked to leave rather than warned in the future. Some advanced shooters have trouble understanding that the public has no knowledge about their previous training or capabilities. They just know that the person shooting next to them is rapid firing ...So they assume they can too. We have observed the shooters on video shooting our ceiling baffles more often than not while rapid firing. Baffle damage in the range today is in excess of $3,000 dollars. We absolutely must and will apply the rules fairly and consistently across the board. These are just a couple of examples. Don't get me wrong, it truly is a very few individuals that continue to violate the rules and press the limits of our patience. The overwhelming majority of our patrons respect the rules and appreciate our strict enforcement of our policies. We will continue to enforce the rules to keep you safe and our equipment in good working order. As a side note, to those who want to practice drawing and rapid firing. Join us on July 26th and one Sunday every month from now on for our FREE MEMBERS Action Shoot. The scenarios will be challenging and different every month and I promise many opportunities to draw and fire as fast as you can. And it is FREE for members AND Legal.
A complete list of range rules is listed on the door to the range and available as a handout at the front desk. |
500 SCORES Are Adding Up...
Participation in the GSSF matches is growing and so are the number of shooters reaching that perfect score of 500. Two of the shooters reaching the 500 score during this series are Richard Bass and David Sawyer pictured at the right. Richard is on the left in the attached picture.
Many of you know that Richard Bass has a long history of 500's and these new GSSF courses of fire have not as of yet had an impact on his scores. I must say that is not a surprise to me as I have always believed a good shooter is a good shooter is a good shooter!
Congratulations guys.... Good Luck. |
Special Orders......
We can get it.... if you want it, we can get... If it is available. We have not been happy with our internal systems with respect to controlling Special Orders. One of my first priorities for Stephanie when she joined us was to look at and FIX our system.
I am very pleased to announce that Stephanie now has climbed out of the "sink hole" of never ending pink special order forms and has a system in place to accommodate all of your special order needs. In fact, thanks to John Balbi and his brother we are now managing all our special orders with a custom written software program written by the "brothers Balbi"! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
So ladies and gentlemen, give us a chance to redeem ourselves in the special order department. I truly believe our system is fixed and we are now capable of handling all your special requirements. I do need to caution you however, the supply chain on many shooting accessories and supplies is still very strained and uncertain at best. So let us give it a try and see what happens... |
