Welcome to The Target Zone
The Monthly Newsletter of Center Target Sports, Inc.
The year is winding down but the pace is picking up. Thanks to all of you for supporting Center Target Sports and for spreading the word to your friends about what we try to do here. The summer of 2008 was the best yet. We normally see a drop off in class enrollment during the summer months, but not this year. Peggy and I know that the success of our programs is due to the word-of-mouth message spread by so many of our customers. We don't know what else to say but Thank You.
With this very important election coming up and the holiday season just around the corner, 2008 will be behind us before we know it. I would like to encourage everyone to vote. Regardless of your political affiliation, I urge you all to take the time to research the candidates at every level of government. Please don't accept what the mainstream media is saying about anyone. The candidates will say anything to get elected. Take the time to read and study the voting records of these candidates as I believe this is the only way to measure their true political positions. For me, I believe their past voting record will be the best indicator as to the agenda they will support if elected.
Speaking of the year winding down. We will all be glad when the road construction in front of the range is finished. Thank you for your patience and for the inconvenience of getting to our business during the Mullan road widening project.
We are excited about our first Reloading Seminar on October 29th. You asked for it so we have solicited the help of Jim Parman from Spokane. Jim is an expert in the art of reloading and he will be conducting this seminar. Bring all your questions as this is the time to get the answers to all your reloading concerns.
I have been racking my brain for an activity to celebrate the popularity of the shooting sports with our female members and patrons. Ladies, help me out here. What activities or programs can we implement that you would like to participate in? Would a mid-day or morning "Woman's League" be the answer? We are pretty much open to any ideas you have. Please send your suggestions to peggy@centertargetsports.com.
Your CTS Family.

Concealed Carry
Street Survival Skills
Thank you all for getting behind this new course. We have never offered a course that has seen so much interest so fast from our members. Many of you are asking "is this class too advanced for me?" I have tried my best to make this course comprehensive as well as appropiate for all levels of CCW holders.
There is so much more to carrying a concealed firearm than just being in possession of the permit. Knowing how to act when confronted with a lethal threat, understanding the use of lethal force or understanding your less than lethal force options, should all be critical concerns to the CCW holder. This class will teach you to evaluate your personal protection options and give you options and techniques to interact with the threat, the police, witnesses, and even your own attorney!
I encourage all CCW holders to consider this class. The skills you will learn in this course will impower you and help keep you and your family safe. This is a very hands-on class with the majority of the 8 hours of instruction taking place on the range. Students MUST possess a current Concealed Carry Permit in order to register for this course.

5 Day Comprehensive Handgun Course Scheduled fo Nov 6 - 10
Because of the tremendous success of the last 5 day course and your many requests to offer it again this year, we have scheduled it in November.
The class is again filling fast. If you have been looking for a way to make dramatic improvements in your handgun shooting skills, this is a must take class. This course is limited in size so we can be sure of the personal attention to each student. You will shoot at least 1500 rounds during the 5 days. This class is for any level of shooter beyond a basic beginner. No matter where you start, you will finish a better shooter.
The class is all about shooting and handgun manipulation. Classroom time is under 6 hours for the entire class which guarantees the student maximum time on the range learning by doing. The course tuition is $500.00. We are very proud of this price as the big named schools charge in excess of $2000.00 for their 5 day courses.
I will put our curriculum and training techniques up against any program anywhere. Remember as is the case with all of our courses, you may repeat this class forever for FREE! I want everyone in this course to finish the week realizing huge improvements in their shooting skills and in the manipulation of their handguns, regardless of where the started out the week. If you give the Comprehensive Handgun course a try, you won't be sorry.

Monthly Training Tip
This month's training tip came to me this weekend while I was teaching a Utah CCW class. One of my students asked about firearm reliability. As I explained the relationship between firearm reliability and ammunition types, it struck me that I have discussed this issue many times in class but never in this newsletter. Many shooters have a false sense of firearm reliability because they seldom put their equipment to the TRUE test. So many shooters fail to shoot their defensive ammo in their handguns. I know that defensive ammo is expensive. However, unless you verify its functionality in your particular handgun, you have no expectation that it will work. I can't emphasize enough that just because you have the appropriate caliber for your gun does not mean that it will be reliable. Students have said, "This brand works in my brother's gun and he has the same model I have". I say, until you try it in your gun, you can't be sure. There are too many variables in the handguns themselves, differences in spring tension, barrel ramps, machining, and so much more. So now for the tip. Test your defensive ammo in your handgun to be sure it operates consistently and reliably. You should cycle your defensive ammo at least once a year. I shoot all my defensive ammo every 6 months. It is a good idea to experience the differences in recoil and in point of bullet impact. When you are sure of the combination, stick with it. If you change a major component on the firearm like a barrel or recoil spring, verify the ammo combination again. Try the ammo in each of your carry magazines as well. You should all have a set of "carry mags". These are magazines that are not used in training where they can be damaged. The defensive ammo may be magazine sensitive so don't take anything for granted. Be sure of your equipment. To help with this process look for a competition next month that will promote the shooting of your defensive ammo. Not sure how we will put this together, but we will have some type of open event over a few days that you can come in and compete with your defensive ammo. We will have a prize for the winner. More on this to follow.

NEW EVOlution Range Bag With Christmas just around the corner and the supply of the new EVO bags limited, I want to highlight this awesome bag one more time.
Talk about versitility. This bag beats any bag I have ever seen. Many of you know that iShot quality is unsurpassed. However, the EVO sets the standard for versitility. This bag is not for the shooter who goes to the range once a year. Clearly this bag was designed for the shooter who wants to keep his equipment organized, protected, and doesn't want to get to the range and realize he/she has forgotten any equipment back home. Please look at the features listed below. You will soon realize this bag does it all. I have never seen a bag that provides so much storage not only for firearms, ammo, safety gear, but this bag has a specific section for cleaning equipment and maintenance tools as well.
