This past week has been heartbreaking for so many in our state and a devastating reminder of the randomness and power of natural disasters.  Children's Harbor, a refuge for seriously ill children, was among the many areas that were hit by a tornado last week.  The landmark lighthouse and children's chapel were not damaged but the lodge and camp sustained damage that can be seen here.    This shows the path of the tornado as it continued across Lake Martin.

Art on the Lake brings the works of over 30 artists to the shores of Lake Martin, 70 miles from Birmingham (directions here). The event features activities for children and live music along with jewelry and fine art on display and for sale.  Every year a percentage of all sales is donated to Children's Harbor.  However, this year that donation will help rebuild the facilities and many artists plan to donate their entire proceeds.  Bob Moody plans to participate and invites you to attend if you are in the area.  Admission is free.

Certainly, the needs are great everywhere and will be ongoing for many months and even years.  There will be lots of opportunities to help.  There are many great sources of information but I think this is really helpful from Alabama Possible.   You can also follow James Spann or We Are Alabama on Twitter for current needs, donations offered, and drop-off locations.  Finally, here is a heartbreaking before/after slider image showing the Tuscaloosa path.  Our hearts go out to all those who suffered inconceivable losses this past week...
