Sharing with Professionals
Gary Sweeten taught at two workshops for the Christian Affiliation of Special Educators at the Hyatt Regency on March 23rd. He shared about the It Takes a Whole Village project and how the results of that research relate to educators. He talked about the isolation, additional stress and lack of spiritual and emotional support that so many parents experience. He also encouraged the educators in their role of connecting parents to resources within the school, church and community.
Jim Donovan, SLS Director of Research, shared at the Regional Help Me Grow conference. Help Me Grow is a state agency that provides in home support and education, during the first three years, to families whose child has been diagnosed with a disability. Jim shared what our research revealed about the importance of spending time with the parents and gave tips on how the case workers can have an even greater impact.
