bliss home will host a reception for artist and University of Tennessee lecturer John Bissonette.
The
works in this show are all tied to his ongoing interests in the
relationship between popular culture and sentimentality. These
paintings date from 2006 to the present and are evidence of an evolving
interest in the spaces of commodified emotion. The object matter in these works comes from multiple sources, ranging from the autobiographical to the public. Seen as a group they present a range of possibilities for the projection of meaning. He views the act of painting as essentially about transformation. It is a way to open up possibilities for images to receive meaning not readily available in their former life.
His work is an exploration of situations that have the ability to transgress the notion of cliché. He works within the constraints of mass culture, yet recode appropriated images and text so as to allow for meaning to be born of the slippery spaces between the genuine and the prescribed.

Vibrant Imagination", a new exhibition featuring the works of Katie
Gamble, Jessica Gregory, and Zophia Kneiss. At the opening reception

colorful acrylics, coupled with Kneiss' metal art, create an elaborate

interpretation of works in everyone who views the exhibit, which will
be on display March 7-28 at the Emporium Center.
