The Doughnut Hole In Our Gospel

Brooke and Leticia
Brooke Thomas feeds porridge to Leticia, the girl she sponsors in Uganda

This Sunday at Calvary you will notice something different at the doughnut counter. As part of The Hole In Our Gospel sermon series and KidVenture curriculum Calvary will be replacing doughnut holes and coffee with corn flour porridge and water. This is a meal that someone in Uganda might have in the morning - if they are able to afford the corn flour. Kids will have an opportunity to try the porridge in KidVenture. We encourage your entire family to engage in this experience in the Atrium as well. Brooke Thomas, a Calvary college student who has been part of several mission trips to Uganda in recent years, as well as other Calvary members, will be on hand in the Atrium to talk about this multi-sensory experience, as well as share ways we can impact the lives of those in Buliisa, Uganda. Brooke shared her experiences with KidVenture two weeks ago during the 9 and 10:30 am hours.  Watch for people in orange "Building up Buliisa" t-shirts.  They would love to engage you in conversation.

How Are You Observing Lent?Easter Cross

As we are now beginning our fourth week of Lent, it is a good time to reflect on our response to the season. Have you increased your time with God? Have you created more intentional time to pray as a family or spend more time reading your Bible? Did you see the list of Lenten family activities that KidVenture compiled in order to help families connect more fully with the Lenten season? You can find the link to the Ideas for Lent guide on the KidVenture Events webpage. We would love to hear how your family is responding to Lent. Tell us on our "Let's Talk About Lent" Facebook event!

Butter Braids Are Here!

If you had the opportunity to purchase Butter Braids or Cookie Dough from our Mission Kids, they are now available for pick up! Please make your way to the Calvary Kitchen between services this Sunday or next, March 25 or April 1, to pick up your order.

Spring Break Schedule

KidVenture Wednesday programming will not take place next Wednesday, March 28, as we observe Unit 5's Spring Break. We hope you all have an enjoyable week with your families! If your travels take you away from the Bloomington-Normal area in the Sundays to come, we encourage you to find a church to attend in that area. We would love to hear about your worship and children's program experiences from your travels!

Holy Week Activities and KidVenture Schedule

We will have a Holy Wednesday service April 4 at 6:30 pm. In order to allow families to attend this meaningful service, we will not have KidVenture Wednesday programming that night. Childcare will be available for little ones if you choose to use it.

Additional Holy Week services include:

  • Holy Saturday, April 7 at 5:30 pm
  • Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday, April 8 at 6:45 am - with a breakfast to follow
  • Easter Sunday Services, Sunday, April 8 at 7:45, 9 and 10:30 am

Building Up Buliisa

Dirty water

KidVenture is collecting money to help with the construction of a deep water well in Buliisa, Uganda. Last Sunday, children received water bottles to put money in if they choose to help. The water bottle is a visual reminder that people in Buliisa need access to fresh, clean water. The bottles can be brought back to Calvary anytime on or before the weekend of April 21-22. Money will also be collected at Calvary in the large water containers in the Education Hallways.
