Acolyte Training and Informational Meeting September 7

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12)

Calvary's Worship Committee is in need of acolytes for all worship services each Sunday. All children in grades four through six are invited to be part of this ministry opportunity. There will be an acolyte training session at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 7 for all prior acolytes and those newly interested in becoming acolytes. During the session, students will learn the meaning and importance of being an acolyte. There will be brief instruction and time to practice lighting the candles. Please fill out the sign-up form and bring it to the training session. If you are unable to attend training but would still like to be an acolyte, please return the form to the Church Office. Questions, contact doretta.irwin@connectwithcalvary.org, 309-452-5413.

Leaders Needed

KidVenture is looking for help in several areas. Especially needed at this time are a few people who would be willing to help with our Wednesday Night Mission Kids (fourth and fifth grades) program. Leaders work together to create schedules that work among themselves, so it isn't necessary to commit to every week. The program is designed in part as a wrap-around from our Sunday Grapple program. There are also opportunities to serve on church service projects and community outreach projects.

Connecting with Our World!

Each week children in KidVenture have the opportunity to connect with our world in outreach. KidVenture sponsors a twelve-year-old boy through Compassion International. His name is Tadcha Supawan and he lives in Northeastern Thailand. Moneys that are collected in our weekly KidVenture Offering go directly to support Tadcha.

Recently Tadcha wrote a letter to Calvary and shared that his studies are going well, the weather has been rainy and that his family is doing well. He was also excited to share about a team of missionaries who visited his area and shared Bible stories and played games with the children there. He wrote that he learned, "If we trust in God, he'll bless us." In closing he added, "May God bless you with peace and energy in your work. Please take care! I love you and your family."

We thank you for your support of Tadcha and KidVenture through your weekly offering. As we go through our week, may we all be blessed by Tadcha's words. May God bless us all with peace and energy as we go about our daily work.

Preschool Connection

Lil'K LogoThis week our Preschoolers learned how to be BIG listeners through the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). When Jesus came to visit their house Martha was busy getting ready, but Mary was a big listener to Jesus.

Remember Verse:

I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength - Phillipians 4:13 (For preschoolers, the Remember Verse remains the same during each 5-week curriculum cycle)

  • Even though you're small, you can do BIG things with God's help!
  • Big listeners stop, look and listen.

Kindergarten-Third Grade Connection

KidMo Johnny Rogers LogoChildren in grades K-3 learned about trusting God this week. Noah trusted God when he told him to build an ark, even though there was no water in sight. It may have seemed odd, but he trusted that God wouldn't tell him to do this for no reason (Genesis 6:5-9:17)

Trusting God can be tough sometimes. God asks us to trust and obey Him even when everyone else might think it's odd. Sometimes it's tough to trust God because of OTHERS, DOUBTS and DISTRACTIONS. Noah trusted God even when others tempted him with doubt.

Memory Max Verse:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths - Proverbs 3:5, 6

Compass Point:
It's never odd to trust God.

Fourth-Fifth Grade Connection

On Sunday, Grapple Logoour Grapple students (fourth and fifth graders) began a four-week study called Why Can't We All Just Get Along? and Sunday's theme was titled Why Do My Parents Always Say No?

Of course, parents don't ALWAYS say, "No." But, kids at this age struggle with boundaries and rules. They think they recognize freedoms that other kids have and they want to be allowed to do the same things. What they don't necessarily understand is that boundaries are not things that parents create as punishments. Rather, boundaries are in place to help keep them safe.

Key Faith Foundation:
God's Direction to Parents: Boundaries = Love

Key Scriptures:
Exodus 20:1-17; Jeremiah 5:22; Ephesians 6:1-4

MyGrapple:
Take some time to sit with your fourth and fifth graders at the computer this week (remind them to have their login information handy). You will find the MyGrapple site at www.mygrapple.com. On the Home Page they will see the Grapple Clues, a challenge and other helpful information designed to keep them thinking about their lesson from Sunday and also prepare them for next week. Take some time to look at "My Class" and have a look at how they can communicate with one another through the "Let's Talk" link.

If your student has any issues with logging on, please contact kidventure@connectwithcalvary.org.
