Greetings!

Rev. Grant Armstrong
When you catch me on my best days, it's clear that I love Jesus Christ above all else. In my heart there rings a melody, and I am full of love for both God and neighbor. Love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control virtually gush forth from me like a geyser. On those days, I probably should wear a veil to allow others to look upon my glowing visage.

And then, of course, I wake up. It's safe to say I have very few days where my love of Christ is so evident. I don't know if you experience this, but I'm more frequently caught up in the world of my personal preferences. I'd prefer to sleep later. I'd rather the radio station didn't play that obnoxious song again. I'd love it if my daughters would quit coming to blows over that noisy little plastic toy they got with their chicken-like nuggets. My internal monologue of demanding my rights could continue ad nauseum - until something corrects my perspective. Call it a scriptural realignment, if you will. My demands all look so petty and selfish when viewed in contrast with the rugged and bloodied cross of Jesus Christ. I have a daily need to encounter that cross.

As we suffered under the terminal illness of sin, Jesus Christ left the splendor of His throne to endure suffering and death so that we might know true, abundant, and eternal life. When sin, sickness, brokenness, and death oppressed God's people, Jesus responded with selflessness on a hill called Calvary.

This Sunday, we continue to introduce the new Calvary Care ministry. We've heard how Christ offered us a mandate to love one another as He has loved us. Inspired by the cross, we'll reflect on how God expects us to respond to the deep needs experienced within our own church family, and those who are yet to come.

I sincerely hope you'll be a part of this weekend's worship!

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Grant Armstrong

Did You Know?

In 1958, J. Henry Cox from Central Illinois Conference offices supervised a statistical survey of the area around Bloomington/Normal for the purpose of planting a new church (Calvary). He noted "new subdivisions are opening up on the east side. The number of homes will soon grow from 200 to 1,000." The "east side" Mr. Cox referred to was west of what we now call Veterans Parkway.
