July 7, 2010
Greetings!

Dr. Randy Perry
It was in that upper room during the last supper when Jesus shared some poignant and powerful words with his disciples. I can imagine how he captured their attention by washing their feet and then saying, "I give you a new commandment..."

During the next two Sundays we will examine that new commandment and consider what Calvary's response must be.  We will consider the importance of genuine hospitality and why everyone who connects with Calvary should feel a part of a caring and supportive family. We will look at what happens when people feel neglected, unnoticed, or shunned. We will see how a simple word of affirmation, basic assistance, and crisis care all align with the new commandment. We will even focus on Christ's call for all of us to be caregivers and how we can learn to do that more and more effectively.

Remember those times when you have been in a place surrounded by people who didn't seem to care whether you were there or not? Have you ever been in personal distress and no one seemed to notice? Have you ever wanted to reach out to someone in grief but didn't know what to say or do? These are just some of the situations that Pastor Grant and I will address in the next two Sundays.  They are very important to Calvary. They are based on the new commandment and how each of us is called to respond.

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday.

Sincerely,

Rev. Dr. Randall K. Perry

Soccer Sundays: How do Churches Compete?
Any given weekend, you are more likely to find many American youngsters dressed in a soccer jersey than their Sunday best. So years ago, the leaders of First United Methodist Church in Anderson, Ind., decided if these soccer players weren't coming to church, they would bring the church to the soccer field.
