April 7, 2010
Greetings!
Josh Barnett

It is an exciting time at Calvary! After an inspiring season of Lent and amazing Easter Sunday, we have even more in store for you and your family!

  • This Sunday the Celebration Singers choir will present an awesome Easter cantata entitled At the Ninth Hour! It will be presented at all three worship services Sunday morning.
  • Next Sunday, April 18, we will launch a new sermon series we are calling Teach Us To Pray. It will focus on the Lord's Prayer. If you have ever wondered if God hears you when you pray or if you have wanted a closer relationship with God but did not know how, this sermon series is for you. Teach Us To Pray will run through May 16.
  • Sunday, April 25, is Confirmation Sunday at Calvary. Plan to be in worship as we welcome our 2009-10 Confirmands into the church. It will be a memorable Sunday for the entire congregation.
  • Because Mother's Day falls on a Sunday this year, Calvary is planning a special time of worship on Sunday, May 9. As is our tradition, the Calvary family will have the opportunity to purchase carnations in honor of or in memory of our mothers. The carnations will crafted in a beautiful altar display for that morning.
  • Wednesday, June 2, is Calvary Night at the CornBelters! The Calvary family will take over The CornCrib Stadium to cheer on the newest professional baseball team in the country! Also that night, a special Calvary children's choir will sing the national anthem before the first pitch. Tickets go on sale this Sunday morning in Atrium for $8 each.

Mark your calendars Calvary family! The next several weeks are going to be an exciting time in the life of the church!

Anger Management
We're an angry country these days-left, right and shrinking middle-frustrated, anxious, eager to blame; divided as Americans, divided as people of faith. I feel it, too. I indulge the anger whenever certain politicians or commentators mock my values with sarcasm and half-truths.

Did You Know?

On Easter Sunday, April 2, 1961, Calvary held its first morning worship service. While the church had been forming for several months, it had not had Sunday morning worship until then. Also on that Easter Sunday they received four new members into the church:  Mr. & Mrs. George Burt and Mr. & Mrs. Robert Bouck. Sunday morning services continued each week from then on under the direction of interim pastor Dr. James Whitehurst.
