March 10, 2010
Greetings!
Randy Perry

Over the past 50 years, each one of us has had the opportunity to be a small part of God's wonderful plan for Calvary United Methodist Church.  Together, we have embraced the mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

As Calvary moves into 2010, we recognize an opportunity to consider what God is calling us to do as we begin this next chapter of Calvary history. God speaks to us in many ways, and leaders listen carefully to the needs of the church and beyond. We prayerfully consider how God is speaking to us about our future. We believe that one of the ways God speaks to us is through our membership... including your hopes and dreams for our future.

With the addition of the Managing Director, Jan Godbey, onto staff at Calvary, one of the first responsibilities I've given her is to pull forward the strategic plan (now called the Calvary Plan), review it, keep it updated, and ensure it is well communicated to all of us.

Jan's first step with the Calvary Plan is to provide opportunities for each Calvary friend and member to share your hopes and dreams for Calvary, to help us clarify the vision that God has for us. Calvary's vision statement will answer the question, 'how is God leading us to uniquely accomplish the mission of the church?' Jan will be giving you the opportunity to provide your input to this question with a series of fireside chats, scheduled during the month of March.

Once the vision is clarified with input from the fireside chats, it will be communicated to all members of Calvary. The major strategies for 2010 and beyond can then be confirmed. The main strategies support the vision and mission of Calvary. And, they give us a way to focus our ministries and our work. We can align all our work to these strategies to ensure that Calvary is answering God's call to make disciples of Jesus Christ in a Calvary unique way that we all understand and support.

We need your involvement and input. Please prayerfully consider joining Jan at one of the Fireside Chat meetings shown in the schedule below. If you would prefer to invite Jan to a group or committee meeting, you are encouraged to call her directly at the church office, or send her an email at jang@cumcnormal.org. We hope to see you at one of the Fireside Chat sessions.

Sincerely,

Rev. Dr. Randall K. Perry (bio)

How To 'Green' Your Church
The award-winning environmental ministry of Haygood United Methodist Church in Atlanta got started in 2007, when the climate gave congregant and stay-at-home mom Willa Paton-Smith a wake-up call. "We were experiencing a level-four drought and record temperatures, and it just felt like this is something we should be concerned about,"

'Wesley' May be Coming to a Theater Near You
A Moravian preacher is bringing the film "Wesley" to a movie theater near you. The two-hour movie that is slowly building a platform in theaters across the United States not only brings to life John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, but also his mother, brother, Georgia girlfriend and an assorted group of uptight religious leaders and hired thugs.
