Greetings!
God usually whispers, I've learned in the 10 short years since becoming a Christian. He nudges, encourages, and softly offers help, but there are times when he gives a strong enough push to leave no doubt he intends me to act. Joining Calvary's staff is one of those times.
It all makes sense as I look back on my life. A 22-year career at State Farm offered me training and experience in leading people, managing strategic plans, and implementing projects. Participating in Disciple I Bible Study at Wesley United Methodist Church triggered an intellectual curiosity that resulted in a life-altering experience of rebirth and a Christ-centered life.
In 2003, I launched Share His Story, a Christian jewelry company. Six years as an entrepreneur taught me about product development, marketing, customer service, but most importantly, I learned that God's plan was more about growing me as a person of faith and integrity than selling jewelry. Throughout storms of disappointments, uncertainty, big decisions with far reaching ramifications, God never abandoned me. I learned to trust him with the same unwavering faithfulness he had in me.
During my 18 months at Immanuel Bible Foundation, I have had the joy of serving the public, maintaining a 100-year-old mansion, connecting with the media, and coordinating major community outreach events. Working for a nonprofit setting sharpened my skill sets for strategic planning and budget control.
After withdrawing as a candidate for the Calvary Managing Director position in August, circumstances at both Calvary and IBF gave me a rare, second opportunity to talk with the search committee about the position. The words, "God is rarely early, but he's never late" danced in my mind as I considered the timing of this possible connection with Calvary. Throughout my interviews with Randy, staff, and the search committee, a powerful energy emerged that accompanies the unfolding of a piece of God's plan. What an exhilarating experience!
Randy reminded us in a recent sermon that God is always calling us to live UP to our privileges. I pray that I live up to the privilege of becoming Calvary's Managing Director. I thank all of you for your warm welcome. I look forward to our journey as we make disciples for Jesus Christ through worship, fellowship, growth, service and evangelism.
In Christ,
Jan Godbey (
