Greetings!
The current pictures from Haiti confirm the initial news reports of devastation, destruction and death from last week's earthquake. The causalities are overwhelming to us. We know that the United Methodist Committee on Relief responded immediately along with teams from other emergency response organizations and Nations. We have just learned that the head of UMCOR, Rev. Sam W. Dixon Jr., was killed in the initial earthquake and that the Rev. Clinton Raab, UMC Director of Volunteers in Haiti, died this past weekend after being air lifted to a Florida hospital. These are two of our own among so many who have died. Of course, the relief efforts will continue.
Last Sunday, worshippers at Calvary were given information on immediate opportunities to assist with Haitian relief. By the conclusion of the 11 am service, approximately $6,000 had been received. What a generous initial response ( donate online to UMCOR)! In the coming weeks and months work teams to Haiti will be organized within our conference, district and local churches. Calvary people will have an opportunity to serve on these mission teams. Even before the earthquake the United Methodist Church had a long standing mission presence in this country. This is such an impoverished area and the needs are great. Compared to others around the world, those of us in the heartland of America are privileged people. God calls us to live up to our privilege and to assist our brothers and sisters in this time of great need. The ongoing generosity of Calvary is very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Randall K. Perry ( bio) Directing Pastor |

- Not a Scrip Customer? It's easy, no extra cost, and it benefits the church. You pay the face value for a gift card, and Calvary purchases it at a discount. We have many restaurants, stores, gas stations, coffee shops etc. Think what we could do if every member picked even just ONE location to use Scrip! Or go with the VISA Reward card that works almost anywhere, and we could do so much more toward that mortgage. See us at the Scrip table in the Atrium, usually just inside the front doors.
- The congregation is invited to an open house at Calvary on Sunday, January 24, 1-3 pm. The open house will be in celebration of the arrival of Silas Tariku Hensley.
- On Sunday, January 31, Calvary will roll out a new Sunday morning Worship Folder. Watch for this exciting new development!

Hudson Plane Crash Survivor Still 'Braced for Impact'
"Brace for impact" could have been the last words Dave Sanderson heard as U.S. Air Flight 1549 descended toward the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009. Many Americans know those three words as Capt. Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger's simple, by-the-book instruction to calm his passengers moments before the "Miracle on the Hudson," when the veteran pilot brought the jet down safely, skimming it atop the icy New York river.
