November BOMA-Atlanta Luncheon Photos

Photos from the November BOMA-Atlanta Luncheon are now posted on the BOMA-Atlanta Facebook page. The Nov. 9 luncheon was held at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel with more than 300 in attendance to see the confirmation of the 2012 BOMA-Atlanta Board of Directors. Elected officials including Atlanta City Councilman Kwanzaa Hall, Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner and State Representative Kathy Ashe were in attendance to recognize BOMA-Atlanta for its community service work and present the association with proclamations from the city, county and state. Finally, featured speaker and BOMA International President Henry Chamberlain gave an industry report updating our members on the progress of the association in 2011 and providing focus for the association's future. Congratulations 2012 BOMA-Atlanta Board of Directors

The recent 2011 November Luncheon and Annual Business meeting saw the approval of the 2012 Board of Directors. Congratulations to the new 2012 BOMA-Atlanta Board of Directors, as well as the returning board members from 2011. The 2012 Board will be installed to office at the 2012 BOMA-Atlanta January Luncheon and Participation Fair.

The officers of the 2012 Board of Directors are:

TOBY Tour and WorkshopPrepare for TOBY Competition

TOBY workshops are a great way for property managers and their building teams to learn how to prepare a building for TOBY competition. This year, BOMA-Atlanta's TOBY workshops will be combined with building tours, so you not only hear about, but see TOBY winning buildings. 2012 BOMA-Atlanta January Luncheon and Participation Fair

To start 2012 off on the right foot, BOMA-Atlanta is trying something new at the January Luncheon! We all have talents that set us apart and make us valuable to our employer. As a BOMA-Atlanta member, you can sharpen those talents-as well as discover talents you perhaps didn't even know you had-through work on a committee or involvement in a shared interest group (SIG).

Aren't sure which committee or SIG is right for you? BOMA-Atlanta's new January Participation Fair--which will be held in conjunction with the 2012 BOMA-Atlanta January Luncheon starting at 11 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2012--is a great opportunity to learn about how and where you can apply your skills and expertise to benefit the association. Participation in committees and SIGs also offers you the means to expand your professional network and development, thus maximizing the value of your BOMA-Atlanta membership. Further, contributing to BOMA-Atlanta as a volunteer demonstrates your commitment to the industry while showcasing your abilities as a professional.

During the Participation Fair, you will learn about BOMA-Atlanta's 11 committees and four SIGs from their leaders.You will also be able to sign up for committee service and SIG participation during your visit.

BOMA International Launches BOMA Fellows

In 2011, BOMA International launched the BOMA Fellows program. This program is among BOMA International's highest honors. It recognizes and honors BOMA members for exemplary and sustained contributions to the industry, their profession, the community and BOMA at all levels, and is a call to continued leadership and service.BOMA values long-time volunteers and highly engaged members for their contributions to the industry, the association and the community. The program provides recognition to individuals for outstanding contributions and also provides BOMA International with access to the best, brightest and most accomplished BOMA members to serve in a variety of capacities. The program provides these accomplished individuals with a credential they can proudly use and display and is a terrific forum for actively engaging these individuals in BOMA activities and initiatives.

Nominations are now open for 2012 and will close Jan. 15, 2012. To nominate someone as a BOMA Fellow, complete and return the nomination form. If you have more question about the program, visit the BOMA International website.

Attend the 2012 Southern Region Conference

Next year's Southern Region Conference will be held in Jacksonville, FL, April 12 - 14. Registration is now open through the link below.


The conference will be held at the Marriott at Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour and the Players Championship. There will be a golf tournament at Pete Dye's Valley Course on Thursday. There will be a networking event on Thursday evening at the beach in Ponte Vedra. On Friday, attendees can take a trip to St. Augustine for the Friday Evening Social Event at Ripley's Believe It Or Not to highlight Friday the 13th.

Education sessions will feature a discussion of advocacy issues directly impacting you and your owners and a disaster preparedness roundtable.

There will be a drawing for all registrants who register between now and Dec. 31, 2011. The winner will receive a golf foursome to play the world famous Players Championship Course at TPC. The certificate will be good for one year. Register on the BOMA Jacksonville website.

Most of BOMA-Atlanta's 2012 calendar of events has been set. Now is your opportunity to begin registering for courses, luncheons and seminars while they are still fresh on your mind. November BOMA Bash

(November 17) BOMA Bash is an informal social and networking opportunity for property managers, facility managers and building engineers, hosted by a select group of allied member sponsors. This Bash is sponsored by SERVPRO of Decatur and ERMC of Atlanta. There is no charge to attend the event, although advance registration is required. Attendance is limited to the first 80 individuals who register. Non-hosting allied members are not allowed to register for this event.

TOBY/Earth Awards Entrant Workshop

(November 17) Property Managers and their teams will learn best practices and helpful tips on entering this year's 2011-2012 TOBY and Earth Awards comptetition. This workshop will be held at the TOBY winning building 1000 Parkwood and includes a building tour.

BTO Lunch

(December 1) Susan Froman with Engle Martin & Associates will present this month's topic: Property Risk Assessments. BOMA Technical Organization (BTO) Quarterly Luncheons bring together building engineers and others interested in the technical aspects of properly maintaining commercial properties. Each luncheon includes educational coverage of a topic important to the industry. To maximize attendance, each luncheon is held twice at different locations.

Medical Office Building SIG Breakfast

(December 1) The Medical Office Building Managers Shared Interest Group (MOB SIG) is organized to address the specific interests of medical office building managers and engineers. This group meets quarterly for an informal breakfast and networking session followed by a discussion of specific medical office management issues and current industry trends and challenges. This meeting will feature a discussion and brainstorming session on topics for 2012 meetings of the MOB SIG.

Hillside Holiday Party

Young Professionals Education Series: Lunch & Learn

(December 6) Are you 35 or under and looking to advance your career in the commercial real estate industry? If so, you should attend BOMA-Atlanta's Young Professionals educational series. You will have a chance to network with leaders in the field and discuss issues affecting young professionals in the industry. The topic for this lunch and learn is Your Behavioral Style: Is Your Career Path Right For You? Attendees will learn the tools and techniques that will maximize their effectiveness in the workplace now, and in the future. Learn more about yourself and demonstrate ways to maximize the effectiveness of your current and future teams.

Online Exam Preparation: LEED Green Associate

(December 7) The online course covers a variety of sustainability topics, green building best practices, and LEED fundamentals. The course topics are tailored to assist industry professionals in understanding the key concepts of LEED and the essentials to pass the Green Associate exam. Enrolled participants receive comprehensive training as it relates to the LEED Rating Systems, green building design concepts, and project strategies. Instructors also provide an overview on recommended study methods, exam-taking skills, and practice questions for the LEED Green Associate professional credential exam.

January BOMA-Atlanta Luncheon and Participation Fair

(January 11) The 2012 January BOMA-Atlanta Luncheon sponsored by Full Circle Restoration will feature the installment of the 2012 Board of Directors. There will also be a new member orientation preceding the luncheon at 10:30 a.m. and a participation fair where members can learn more about participation in BOMA-Atlanta committees and SIGs.

Commercial HVAC - 5th Semester

(January 12) Designed for building engineers, the Commercial HVAC course provides an opportunity to enhance service skills through hands-on training. The course will enable beginning engineers and those with experience to become more proficient in the work environment. This is the fifth semester in the five-semester program. This semester covers control systems; electricity, power and efficiency; and rules regulations, standards and laws. A certificate of completion will be issued to show attendance and completion of the required material.
