 2011 Sports Outing Highlights and Photos
The 2011 Sports Outing presented by SERVPRO Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration was another success this year with more than 300 in attendance for a day of golf, tennis and networking. Photos from the event can be found on the BOMA-Atlanta Facebook page. BOMA-Atlanta raised more than $400 in this year's auction to benefit the children of Hillside. Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers and participants who made this BOMA-Atlanta tradition a success!
 Celebrate the Holiday Season with Hillside
This year's Hillside Holiday Event is set for Tuesday, Dec. 6.
To get ready for this event, BOMA-Atlanta will have an Angel Tree at the November Luncheon on Nov. 9 at the Westin. Each Angel will be $75, and BOMA volunteer shoppers will shop for the children's presents. Plan to attend this year's November Luncheon and Annual Business meeting and buy an Angel for a child at Hillside.

 BOMA-Atlanta Member Companies Named Best Places to Work
The Atlanta Business Chronicle recently annoucned its 2011 Best Places to Work for metro Atlanta. Included in the list of small, medium and large companies were four BOMA-Atlanta member companies. The results were measured by scores taken from company employees in a Quantum Workplace survey. Congratulations to Wells Real Estate, McKenney's Inc., Northwest Exterminating Company Inc., and Veenendaal Cave for their recognition in the Atlanta Business Chronicle's 2011 Best Places to Work.

Congratulations PM 101 Graduates!
BOMA-Atlanta would like to congratulate all the recent graduates of Property Management 101 (PM 101). This five-day course is taught over five weeks and exposes beginning and more experienced property professionals to life in property management, building systems, operations, accounting and reporting and contract administration. There were eight graduates of this year's course that concluded on Sept. 16.

 BOMA-Atlanta Supports the Transporation Investment Act
Recently, the BOMA-Atlanta Board of Directors--at the recommendation of the Government Affairs Committee--determined that BOMA-Atlanta will support efforts under the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 (TIA), including the passage of a transportation special purpose local option sales tax (TSPLOST) in our region. The TIA creates the opportunity for residents to vote on a penny sales tax to support transportation improvements throughout the Atlanta region. In July 2012, residents will decide whether or not to approve a penny sales tax to support these projects. If the tax is approved by voters, all funds raised will stay in our 10-county region and can be used to support a wide range of projects that would combat congestion.

 BOMA-Atlanta Hosts Fall Free Seminar
On Oct. 11, BOMA-Atlanta will host its Fall Free Seminar Standards to Watch from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. at 3630 Peachtree, Atlanta, GA 30326. This FREE two-and-a-half hour seminar will cover the most recent changes to codes and standards that are important to commercial real estate professionals.
Mark Schroeder with VeenendalCave will speak about the recent changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ken Green with Essex Company will talk about changes to the I-14, and Bruce Longino with Carrier Complete Systems will talk about changes to ASHRAE's ventilation, IAQ and energy standards. The seminar will conclude with GSA mandates for ENERGY STARŪ and LEED, and the Smart Grid impact presented by Charlie Cichetti with Sustainable Investment Group.
This seminar is a great value to attendees. Holders of a Georgia Real Estate License can receive 3 credit hours for attending this seminar!

 Register to Volunteer for the Third Annual HomeAid Construction Project
On Oct. 21, 2011, BOMA-Atlanta will partner with HomeAid of Atlanta for the third annual HomeAid Construction Project. This year, BOMA-Atlanta will help renovate two buildings; the Mary Hall Freedom House, serving women and mothers by empowering them to break the cycle of addiction, poverty and homelessness; and Trinity House - Big Bethel, a residential transitional program designed to serve homeless men with issues regarding drug dependency.
BOMA-Atlanta is encouraging more property managers, facility managers and building engineers to attend this year's event. Those unable to volunteer, may be able to come to the City Hall Kickoff Event at 7:15 a.m. on the day of the project. If you are interested in volunteering, attending the kickoff event, or both, please complete the registration form.

 CREW Gala to Celebrate 30 Years of Service
Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) is inviting female commercial real estate professionals to its Gala event at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center to celebrate 30 years of service to women in commercial real estate. The dress is cocktail attire, and the evening will feature dinner and entertainment by Yacht Rock Revue.
Tickets are on sale now and are $350 for premium tickets and $250 for standard tickets. Tickets can also be ordered in a groups of 10 totaling $3,500 for premium or $2,500 for standard group tickets. To purchase tickets or get more information about the Gala, visit the CREW-Atlanta website.

The third annual Law Enforcement/Private Sector Business Continuity summit will be held on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 at the Georgia Tech Research Institute Conference Center and will be FREE to all attendees. This fall the Community Service Committee has more exciting offers available through the discount ticket fundraising program.
BOMA members can now purchase Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Braves, Georgia State Football and other sports tickets at discounts of up to 50 percent. The children at Hillside receive $5-10 for every ticket purchased through this program.
These offers are not limited to BOMA members. The discount code can be shared with anyone. The program is a great opportunity for members to develop business and show appreciation to their customers.
Through lobby events, properties have the opportunity to help raise money for BOMA-Atlanta's chosen charity Hillside. Lobby events are great for tenant relations and are very successful fundraisers.

BOMA-Atlanta's magazine, Insight, the Commercial Real Estate Journal, is now accepting member announcements for issue four's member news section. This section highlights various news about BOMA members. The magazine's editorial board invites members to submit these potential news stories for review and possible publication. These stories can include job promotions, professional milestones, awards, baby announcements and other news that recognizes the accomplishments of professionals in the commercial real estate industry.

 Green Education Opportunities
BOMA is a leader in sustainability. BOMA also offers a variety of green educational opportunities for real estate professionals.
BOMA offers classroom preparation courses for the LEED Green Associate and LEED AP Operations and Maintenance exams. The courses provide an in-depth preparation to take the LEED exams. In addition to in-person training, participants also receive access to 60 days of post-class online exam simulators, which reinforce the knowledge gained by attending the course.

Online LEED Green Associate Exam Prep Course(October 5) The online course covers a variety of sustainability topics, green building best practices, and LEED fundamentals. The course topics are tailored to assist industry professionals in understanding the key concepts of LEED and the essentials to pass the Green Associate exam. Enrolled participants receive comprehensive training as it relates to the LEED Rating Systems, green building design concepts, and strategies. Instructors also provide an overview on recommended study methods, exam-taking skills, and practice questions for the LEED Green Associate professional exam. Standards to Watch(October 11) THREE CEU HOURS AVAILABLE FOR GEORGIA REAL ESTATE LICENSE HOLDERS! Codes and standards are constantly changing to improve public protection by setting minimum levels of safety for buildings and management procedures and increase ease of use by creating common operating procedures and equipment design. It is crucial that property management professionals remain aware of the coming changes to codes and standards. This free, two and a half hour seminar includes breakfast and is a great value for Atlanta commercial real estate professionals. Attendees will hear from four experts in the areas of safety, sustainability, engineering and accessibility. This seminar will cover changes to standards and codes of the ADA; I-14; ASHRAE 62.1 Ventilation and IAQ Standard; ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Standard; and ENERGY STARŪ and LEED mandates from GSA. Safety Seminar: Arc Flash Prevention(October 18) Between five and 10 arc flash explosions occur in the United States per day, according to CapSchell Inc, a research company that specializes in workplace accident prevention. Injuries resulting from arc flash are typical of an explosion and may include flash burns, hearing loss, vision loss, general trauma and death. Stephen Harvey with Mayberry Electric would like to make you aware of the current changes in the NFPA 70E, the National Electric Code 2011 and how those changes will affect your building and future electrical upgrades. Also, he will provide important introductory safety information on arc flash hazard analysis, arc flash protection boundary, incident energy and PPE. Harvey will share real-life applications and life-saving tips while bringing awareness to some areas that can provide cost-saving benefits to engineers, property managers and building owners. Sustainable Real Estate Seminar: Green Building Renovations(October 19) BOMA-Atlanta and the Green Chamber of the South (GCOS) present the next Sustainable Real Estate Seminar, Green Building Renovations. This seminar includes classroom sessions and a building tour that will demonstrate to attendees the possibilities and opportunities created by green construction and renovation. The presentation and tour will take a comprehensive look at green renovations covering topics such as: building assessments and sustainable goals, adaptive reuse, building envelope upgrades, roof monitoring and central stairs, water savings, green roofs and photovoltaics. Facilities Planning and Project Management(October 26) Through this course, you will develop the skills and knowledge critical to the successful execution of a facilities project: proper planning, selecting a building's team, and following through with attention to detail. You will learn how to assemble and manage facilities teams and how to plan and implement facilities projects, including methods to control key elements of the process. In this course you will examine case studies on SFP models, project management methods, and outcomes. You will also study how to close out projects, how to complete and use a facilities annual report, and how to read and interpret architectural drawings. The New 2010 BOMA Office Measurement Standard(November 1) Learn how to maximize updates to the new 2010 Office Measurement Standard during this live, hands-on seminar. The 2010 Office Standard represents significant improvements over the 1996 version and incorporates many features that have been demanded by property managers, including a new Single Load Factor Method calculation for all floors of a multi-story building, greatly simplifying leasing. Environmental Health and Safety Issues(November 2) This course provides you with an overview of the environmental health and safety considerations in building operations. You will learn to develop and manage proactive environmental/occupational health and safety programs, comply with regulatory standards and guidelines governing facility health and safety issues, and assess when to obtain technical assistance. Green Real Estate Network: November Breakfast(November 15) The Green Real Estate Network is for individuals who want to further their knowledge of green and sustainable practices. These breakfasts allow attendees to network with leaders in green and learn more about sustainability in the commercial real estate industry. The topic for this breakfast is Gaining LEED Through Direct Management of Vendor Relationships. Greg Bellina of Cousins and Amanda Madrid of Jones Lang LaSalle will talk about how they leveraged vendor relationships to help them earn LEED points. November BOMA-Atlanta Bash(November 17) BOMA-Atlanta Bash is an informal social and networking opportunity for property managers, facility managers and building engineers, hosted by a select group of allied member sponsors.
