Cooling Tower 101 Workshop(September 13) Cooling towers represent one of the largest users of water in the commercial and industrial sectors. The efficient operation and management of a cooling tower can reduce water consumption and save energy. The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District is partnering with the Building Owners and Managers of Atlanta (BOMA) to offer a cooling tower workshop for building engineers, facility managers, property managers and local water providers. This workshop will discuss cycles of concentration; performance contracting; cooling tower blowdown optimization; alternative sources of water supply for cooling tower make-up; water quality issues; and alternative treatment technologies.

Commercial HVAC - 4th Semester(September 15 - November 17) Designed for building engineers, the Commercial HVAC course provides an opportunity to enhance service skills through hands-on training. The course will enable beginning engineers and those with experience to become more proficient in the work environment. This semester covers heating systems. This is the fourth in a five-semester series. You are not required to take the semesters in sequence. The classes may be taken in conjunction with SMA classes or any other seminars. However, the HVAC course does not provide credit towards a BOMI designation.

LEED Green Associate Exam Prep(September 27) The USGBC's new LEED Green Associate designation is the first step to achieving LEED AP status. This designation is designed for professionals who want to demonstrate green building expertise in non-technical fields of practice, and denotes basic knowledge of green design, construction and operations. During the one-day class, Charlie Cichetti of Sustainable Investment Group will provide an in-depth overview of recent changes to the Green Associate and LEED AP exam structure and a full day's training that will prepare you to take the Green Associate exam. In addition to this in-person training, attendees will receive access for 60-days of post-class online exam simulators, which will reinforce classroom knowledge. Safety Seminar: Arc Flash Prevention(October 18) Between five and 10 arc flash explosions occur in the United States per day, according to CapSchell Inc, a research company that specializes in workplace accident prevention. Injuries resulting from arc flash are typical of an explosion and may include flash burns, hearing loss, vision loss, general trauma and death. Stephen Harvey with Mayberry Electric would like to make you aware of the current changes in the NFPA 70E, the National Electric Code 2011 and how those changes will affect your building and future electrical upgrades. Green Building Renovations. This seminar includes classroom sessions and a building tour that will demonstrate to attendees the possibilities and opportunities created by green construction and renovation. Home Aid Construction Project(October 21) BOMA-Atlanta will partner with HomeAid of Atlanta for the third annual HomeAid Construction Project. This year, BOMA-Atlanta will help renovate two different buildings; the Mary Hall Freedom House, serving women and women with children by empowering them to break the cycle of addiction, poverty and homelessness; and Trinity House - Big Bethel, a residential transitional program designed to serve homeless men with issues regarding drug dependency. Facilities Planning and Project Management(October 26) Through this course, you will develop the skills and knowledge critical to the successful execution of a facilities project: proper planning, selecting a building's team, and following through with attention to detail. You will learn how to assemble and manage facilities teams and how to plan and implement facilities projects, including methods to control key elements of the process. In this course you will examine case studies on SFP models, project management methods, and outcomes. You will also study how to close out projects, how to complete and use a facilities annual report, and how to read and interpret architectural drawings.
