2011 TOBY AwardsOnline Portfolio Building Begins for TOBY Awards

Property managers and facility managers can now visit the The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards website to begin building their online portfolios to be considered for the regional and national 2010-2011 TOBY Awards. Starting the online portfolio helps property and facility managers prepare to compete in the local 2010-2011 BOMA-Atlanta TOBY Awards.

The TOBY Awards program is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing quality in buildings and rewarding excellence in building management.

During the competitions, all facets of a building's operations are thoroughly evaluated. Buildings are judged on everything from community involvement and site management to environmental and "green" policies and procedures.

Time is running out for BOMA-Atlanta members to submit nominations for leadership positions for 2011. Nominees have the opportunity to serve on the BOMA-Atlanta Board of Directors and as a BOMA-Atlanta officer.These leaders help set the direction for the association for years to come.

Attend the GreenBusiness Works Expo

Registration has begun for the GreenBusiness Works Expo beginning Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Cobb Galleria Centre. 

EXPO 2010 will host more than 350 attendees, more than 60 exhibitors and more than 70 sustainable subject matter experts. This year's opening keynote speaker is Rosalind G. Brewer, executive vice president of Walmart and president of Walmart Stores, Inc.'s South Business Unit. In addition to the overall responsibility for the 1,200 Walmart stores in the eight southern states, Brewer has the responsibility to integrate sustainability both in the stores and in field operations.

SRC2011Registration Begins for 2011 Southern Region Conference
 
BOMA-Atlanta members can now register for the 2011 Southern Region Conference (SRC), which will be held April 14-16 in Raleigh, NC.

This year's theme for the SRC is You'll Have a Ball, which is influenced by Raleigh's notable basketball history. To register for the SRC, visit BOMA Raleigh-Durham's website. Click on the SRC logo on the bottom left of the page and select the option to register for the event.

The Community Service Committee is announcing the expansion of the discount ticket fundraising program.
 
BOMA members can now purchase Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers, and Georgia State University Football tickets at discounts of up to 50 percent. The children at Hillside receive $5-10 for every ticket purchased through this program.
 
These offers are not limited to BOMA members. The discount code can be shared with anyone.
 
The program is a great opportunity for members to develop business and show appreciation to their customers.

BOMA 360Free Webinar Discusses BOMA 360 Program

BOMA International will hold a free Webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. to discuss the BOMA 360 designation.

The one-hour seminar will be led by speaker Dan Chancey, general manager at Grubb and Ellis Company in Memphis, Tenn.

Chancey will explain why BOMA developed this program; and the benefits of participation; how designees are using the program to demonstrate value to owners, tenants and the entire property management team; the requirements for the designation; and step-by-step instructions for completing the easy-to-use online application.

American FlagBOMA-Atlanta Begins New Grassroots Advocacy Program

BOMA-Atlanta is requesting home addresses from members as part of its new grassroots advocacy program.
 
The program, VOTERVOICE, will use the home addresses to provide members with specific data regarding their elected officials and provide a quick means to send targeted communications to the correct local and state government representatives.  To assist BOMA-Atlanta in this effort, register your home address electronically, use the e-form.
 
BOMA-Atlanta respects members' privacy and will only use home addresses for government advocacy and VOTERVOICE. Members' addresses will not be sold or given to anyone, and members will not receive unwanted mail from either BOMA-Atlanta or VOTERVOICE.

Cousins Properties LogoRegistration Still Available for the 2010 Sports Outing Tennis Tournament


The 2010 BOMA-Atlanta Sports Outing will be held at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga., on Oct. 1.

The annual BOMA Sports Outing consistently attracts a large crowd of building owners, managers and allied members each year. The event has sold out the competitive and recreational golf tournament, but the tennis tournament, dinner and awards ceremony are still available for registration. Throughout the day, participants have an opportunity to network with others in the commercial real estate industry.

Last year's Sports Outing sold out and the last spots for the tennis tournament are going quick. Be sure to register now for this event by visiting the 2010 Sports Outing web page and downloading the registration form. Fundamentals Of Real Property Administration - Accelerated

(September 22) This course will help you learn to manage buildings; communicate with employees, managers, and tenants; protect the interests of the owner; market property; negotiate leases; and protect the environment. By providing an overview of the property management profession, this course helps you understand and integrate the many duties and responsibilities of a property manager.

2010 Sports Outing

(October 1) The 2010 BOMA-Atlanta Sports Outing, presented by SERVPRO Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration, will be on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Chateau Elan. The annual BOMA Sports Outing attracts a large crowd of building owners, managers and allied members. The event includes a golf tournament, tennis tournament, dinner and awards ceremony. Throughout the day, participants have an opportunity to network with others in the commercial real estate industry.

October BOMA Bash

(October 7) Sponsored by Security Forces, Inc., SERVPRO of Decatur and Harbin's Mechanical Services. The BOMA Bash is an informal social and networking opportunity for property managers, facility managers and building engineers, hosted by a select group of allied member sponsors. This quarter's BOMA Bash will be held at Chequers. There is no charge to attend the event, although advance registration is required. Attendance is limited to the first 80 individuals who register.

Energy Management and Controls

(October 12) This course will help you understand key maintenance and energy management aspects of building management. This knowledge is critical to running a cost-effective operation. This class provides you with skills to evaluate and optimize your current energy system, know-how to integrate new components, and ability to communicate your needs to management.

Facilities Planning and Project Management - Accelerated

(October 13) This course will teach you the skills and knowledge critical to the successful execution of a facilities project: proper planning, selecting a building's team, and following through with attention to detail. You will learn how to assemble and manage facilities teams and how to plan and implement facilities projects, including methods to control key elements of the process.

Safety Seminar: Altering the Odds

(October 21) This seminar, conducted by Jack Kennedy of Childress Klein and Mark Gallman of Tishman Speyer, explores personal safety and the steps to develop a personal safety program. Attendees will learn strategies for increasing situational awareness and best practices that lower the risk of injury to you and others.

The Impact of New Health Care Law on Real Estate

(October 27) Health care is changing in America, and it is important to know how it impacts you. The Health Care Legislation seminar provides an overview of the new law by examining what is in it and how it impacts building managers and the bottom line. The seminar introduces four stakeholder market segments: building management; insurance companies; government; and medical tenants. Each segment will discuss the health care legislation from its unique viewpoint.

Environmental Health & Safety Issues - Accelerated

(November 3) This course provides you with an overview of the environmental health and safety considerations in building operations. You will learn to develop and manage proactive environmental/occupational health and safety programs, comply with regulatory standards and guidelines governing facility health and safety issues, and assess when to obtain technical assistance.
