Greetings!
End of summer greetings! I can't believe it's almost September. Here at Rancho Vilasa in Santa Ynez we're enjoying the 104 degree heat. That's life in California. Wherever you are, I hope that your life is bringing you happiness and fulfilled dreams.

Without more ado, here's my news--

Sandy Nathan
Award winning author of Numenon & Stepping Off the Edge
I'M ON THE .PERCEPTIVE MARKETING HOUR MONDAY, AUGUST 31st at 7PM CST. SANDY LAWRENCE, PRESIDENT OF PERCEPTIVE MARKETING WILL INTERVIEW ME ON  ARTIST FIRST RADIO.

To listen live, go to the site at 7PM CST (5 PM Pacific time, 8 PM Eastern) Monday and click on Click to Listen LIVE. Or just open this email and CLICK HERE.

We'll be discussing my book, Numenon. A tale of mysticism & money, Numenon has been called "Bill Gates meets Don Juan." I say it's Silicon Valley meets shamanic reality.

Numenon is the story of the richest man in the world, a Silicon Valley billionaire, meeting a great Native American shaman. If you like Carlos Casteneda, Paolo Coehlo, or Dan Millman, you'll like Numenon. As a Kindle book, it's been a top seller under Mysticism for months. Here's a link to my web page where you can read all about it:  All about Numenon.

NUMENON WINS THE 2009 IPPY (Independent Publisher) AWARDS SILVER MEDAL in VISIONARY FICTION--IT'S WON FOUR NATIONAL AWARDS!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SANDY.NATHAN.BANNERI was ecstatic to learn that Numenon won a SILVER MEDAL in the 2009 IPPY AWARD. The Independent Publishers Award is one of the oldest and largest book contests for independent presses. This year's awards attracted 4,090 entries from throughout the U.S. and Canada, plus most English-speaking countries worldwide.
SANDY.NATHAN.BANNERWeeks before its Silver in the IPPYs, Numenon won the 2009 SILVER NAUTILUS AWARD, an award established to "change the world one book at a time." It is devoted to "Recognizing Books and Audio Books that Promote Spiritual Growth, Conscious Living, and Positive Social Change and stimulate the 'imagination' and inspire the reader to 'new possibilities' for a better world." Previous Nautilus winners include: Deepak Chopra, M.D., Thich Nnat Hanh, Jean Houston, PhD., Eckhart Tolle, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and Andrew Weil, M.D.
WATCHA GONNA DO WHEN THE BOOK'S TOO LONG? WATCHA GONNA DO WHEN THE NAME DON'T FIT? HAVE A CONTEST!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SANDY.NATHAN.BANNER  I need your advice--and I'm offering a prize for the best answers. Read my dilemma, and see what you come up with. Best new title and editing advice (and I'm the judge and jury) wins a free set of my two books, autographed and shipped to you free. END OF THE CONTEST IS SEPTEMBER 15TH! Here's the deal:

Many of you have read my book Numenon, Book I of the Bloodsong Series. Some of you are champing at the bit, waiting for the sequel that I said was written (as a draft) and coming soon.

It is written, and I have been working on the rewrite. I'm stuck and need your help.

First, a primer on the writing process: Do you know how writing goes? In an inspired state approximating that of the burning bush in the Bible, the author pumps out her first draft. When back down to normal consciousness, the draft doesn't look so hot.

Then comes rewriting and writers' groups/conferences/seances/spiritual interventions. Editors, beta-readers' groups, and hitting on your friends to read just one more draft. (I don't know how many times I rewrote Numenon.)

I've been working on a definitive rewrite on The-Book-Formerly-Known-as-Mogollon, the sequel to Numenon. People who have read portions of it tell me it's good. (Another bit about writers: Some of them think everything they write is great. I think what I write is OK, when I write it. Twenty minutes later, I think it's lousy. I'm always surprised when I win awards.)

But Numenon's sequel isn't like that. The feedback of those who've read what I've got has been unanimous. For instance, I gave my cousin what I had written and she said this:

"Sandy, some day you're going to be sitting at your desk. You're going to look up and see me, outside your window, my hands spread wide and my nose jammed up against the glass. I'll be screaming, "FINISH THE BOOK! FINISH THE ****** BOOK! How could you do this to me! How could you!?" (I sent her what I had finished, which ends when something significant blows up.)

OK. I know some of you are mad at me for . . . , but I've got a problem.

The manuscript is LONG. I'm talking 1,000+ pages, big like one of Stephen King's whoppers, or George R.R. Martin's, or Diana Gabaldon's. BIG. Lots of characters, lots going on. Epic scale.

The publishing industry is in a slump. The major publishers won't touch a novel of more than 130,000 words. (How big is that? 130,000 words will fit on the back of a jumbo-sized cereal box, to my mind.)

My editor says, "Cut it to the bone."

But I feel my characters' pain.

Here's my question: Would you rather have a long, rich, detailed, opulent book full of thrills or a tightly-written one focused around my very flawed hero, Will Duane?

The short version will mean that people like Rich Salles, that nice artist/driver with the girlfriend in the wheelchair will be struck from the pages. You'll never find out what happens to him, or in a bunch of others.

Or would you like the long version released as three books, each easy to pack around  but adding up to the whole whopper? Or the long one just as an electronic version, like on Kindle?

Tell me what you want, readers. Big, little, three volumes. Please, tell me what works for you. Email Sandy!

Also: What do you think of Mogollon as the title for the new book? That's the title I'd proposed originally. Can you figure out how to pronounce it? Other people have said the same: It's like gargling worms.

Perhaps a more reader friendly title might be nice. What? I'm open to suggestions. The gang is at the Mogollon Bowl and everything that was set up in Numenon happens, and more, that you'll never believe. Title?

Want to up the ante? Here's Lulu's Title Scorer, a statistical estimate of the probability of your title becoming a bestseller. Test your title before passing it to me. Do I pay attention to this? You betcha. LULU'S TITLE SCORER

If you have any good ideas, I'd love to hear them. The set of books will be given away!  END OF THE CONTEST IS SEPTEMBER 15TH!  Email Sandy!
