Greetings!
Here's the latest from Sandy Nathan, Rancho Vilasa, and Vilasa Press.

You may wonder who the babe in the banner above is. It's me. Good old me, back in the day. I found some old glamour photos and have been having a blast with them on my new blog for writers and other human beings, YOUR SHELF LIFE. It's about longevity in print and in person. More on that below.

The news with TIME VALUE IS: I'M ON FULL POWER LIVING THIS THURSDAY MORNING. Check the next item. CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE PROGRAM SITE.

I'm alive and well, writing like mad and getting around handily on my fused ankle. Looking forward to getting on my horse again.

All the best to you,
Sandy Nathan

 ILENE DILLON, MSW, THE EMOTIONAL PRO  Ilene Dillon is my favorite radio show hostess. For one thing, she's REALLY smart--she's been a psychotherapist for more than 36 years and holds both the MSW and MFT licenses. The Emotional Pro, Ilene has studied emotions as part of her quest to teach people about love. She is a pro: a therapist, author, teacher, consultant, mother, wife, grandmother, and most of all, a healer.

Ilene comes up with the BEST questions. Being interviewed by Ilene is a thrill, because she comprehends my work at its deepest and fullest. What will we be talking about on Thursday?

THE CREATIVE PROCESS AND -- NUMENON, MY NEW NOVEL. This is what Ilene says:
"Have you ever wondered how authors come up with what they write? So does national award winning author, Sandy Nathan. Sandy is the author of Numenon and Stepping Off the Edge and a prolific writer. We'll be discussing creative process, using Sandy's new book, Numenon, as an example--along with the sci-fi series she's been working on in her spare time. "It just jumped out. I was shocked. I've been thinking about how my brain produces the words it does. Is it a meditation? From the hard times in life? Does darkness produce light?" Join us as we explore the interface and create something from nothing.

"Sandy's work rivals that of J.K. Rowling-- except it's a series for adults! If you've ever furtively 'borrowed' your child's Harry Potter books and wished for a more adult version, you're going to love Numenon!"

If I'm giving you short notice to catch a radio show--don't worry. You can listen to the show live or archived.The show is LIVE Thursday, February 12, at 9 a.m. PST. CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE PROGRAM.

But wouldn't you like to ask me a question about my writing? Where Numenon came from? The show is live. You can IM Chat or call toll-free, 800-630-7858. I'd love to hear from you!

YOUR SHELF LIFE: How Long Will You Last?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sandy Nathan, award winning author of Numenon I came up with the idea of my new blog, YOUR SHELF LIFE, a few months ago. A friend who'd been having all sorts of life trials told me that an article I'd written ten years ago really helped her. (CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE.) At the time, I was struggling with the issues that plague all writers, "Why am I doing this? What does it mean?" And, "Is being published more important than having air to breathe?"
A life devoted to writing is full of rejection, anxiety, pain, inspiration, occasional ecstasy, lots of work, trauma, and everything else, just like regular life, but more intense. When my friend told me that a story I'd knocked off as a whim all those years ago really helped her, it helped me to focus in on what's important to me about writing. Longevity and impact.
And thus, YOUR SHELF LIFE: How Long Will You Last? was born. You can click on the title and go to to the blog.
I start off with a bang: I'm blogging about my Amazon Bestseller Day back in December 2008. Did I rise to the top ranks of Amazon sales? Did I fall on my fanny? Would I do it again. Why am I using those glamour pictures of myself in the series and here?
Funny and poignant, someone called it. YOUR SHELF LIFE is my Stepping Off the Edge for 2009. It's life lessons and learning illustrated with my own adventures. If you like YOUR SHELF LIFE, you'll love my book, Stepping Off the Edge.
And here's a new video showing you what Stepping's about: Stepping Off the Edge.
You can order it here. We sell it cheaper than Amazon, and I'll sign and inscribe it for you. How about that?
Numenon Logo SmallNumenon: A Tale of Mysticism & Money Those who have read Numenon tend to finish and then contact me saying, "Where's the sequel?"
The sequel is written. I'm rewriting it, then it goes to the editor for about the sixth time, then the proofreader, etc. That's the process of publication. The more the sequel stews inside me, the better the flavor. The punch. The desperate longing. The danger. Mayhem. And love. The book delivers.
Some (non-readers, mostly) complain that the title Numenon is not user friendly. OK. How about the sequel's title: Mogollon? (Pronounced Mow-go-yone. That's Spanish. One could also use the indigenous pronunciation: Muggy-yone. I like: Mow-go-lawn, the way it looks.)
NAME THE SEQUEL: I've been thinking about changing Mogollon to Bloodsong. It's the Bloodsong Series, why not? My husband feels that Bloodsong sounds like third rate sci-fi. Someone who read Numenon said, "Well everyone who's read Numenon will want Mogollon." Another reader liked Bloodsong.
What do you think? If you have any good title ideas, let me know. (It would probably be more helpful if you'd read Numenon before volunteering sequel titles.) sandy@sandynathan.com
The Angel & the Brown-eyed Boy. The first book of Tales from Earth's End. This little three or possibly four volume sci-fi series knocked me over when it erupted in my brain this last year. I'll be talking about how it came to be with Ilene Dillon on Full Power Living on Thursday. You can read the first chapter at the end of Numenon. It's also on the Tales from Earth's End blog.
BOOK VIDEOS: WE GOT 'EM: Click and see 'em. I think these videos capture the essence of both books.  Tell me how you like them.
OTHER NEWS: TECOLOTE FINDS A FRIEND:
The e-book you can get free for signing up for our mailing list, has gotten a warm reception. We're planning on putting it out as a kid's book in the Spring.
And . . .  NUMENON is going paperback. We're putting out a special paperback edition sold primarily on Amazon. Should you wait until it comes out in the next few weeks, or buy the hardback now?
Buy the hardback. We have it discounted deeply and Amazon does too. It's a better value: a gorgeous hardback vs. a paperback at the same price? No contest.
Happy trails and keep reading!
I was 46 years old when this photo was taken. No nips, tucks, injections, or fancy lenses. That was then. Now's not so bad.
