Because of Your Support, I Took Part in Life-Changing Summer Activities
As an El Viento graduate, I am one of many El Viento graduates that participated in summer activities while in the El Viento Program. The summer activities helped me become who I am today.
Throughout my participation in El Viento my two favorite summer activities were swimming and sailing. One of the things I learned when sailing was in order to reach my destination I must be able to adjust the sails. Since I learned this, I have had to adjust my sails to reach and accomplish my goals.
Other than swimming and sailing, I also remember the away-camps. Going away from home was one of my greatest fears and I overcame that fear while participating in El Viento. The away camps were one week and, throughout the week, we would learn and have fun. At camp I met new people, made new friends, strengthened my relationships with my old friends, but most importantly I became out-going. Today, due to budget constraints, many of our flights have not had the opportunity to participate in an away camp, a camping experience that gives students a different way of seeing life. Overall, I benefited from these experiences and they helped me reach my goal of attending college.
Since my high school graduation, in June 2010, I have been attending Cal State Long Beach and I have volunteered at El Viento during the summer. I wanted to volunteer and give back to the program that gave me so much and to demonstrate to the younger flights that they can accomplish anything and everything they set their minds to.
Thank you so much for your support!!!
