Get Your Business Fix on Route 66 - OKC in 2010!

Greetings RPMDA'ers!2010

I know, I know - you don't have to tell me - many of you have just gotten back from NAMM, so the last thing you want to think about right now is another convention. Or, maybe you're one of those who's still reeling over the fact that 2009 is now but a dream, and that 2010, in all its icy beginning, is already one twelfth of the way over - just how does the time pass by so quickly!?

2010 is here!
future

Well, whichever legion you most closely relate, it really doesn't matter, because the fact of the matter is this: Yes, there'll be another convention on your horizon; perhaps more than one, actually, so you've got to be thinking about it sometime. You might as well start now. And yes, the year 2010 is almost one twelfth complete, and the elements of time keep marching forward, whether we want them to or not. Since it's going to happen anyway, why not fill the time thinking of your future - your future at the RPMDA Convention, in Oklahoma City, that is.
The Day Before
 bus ride
The 2010 RPMDA Convention officially begins on Wednesday afternoon/evening, April 14th. But for many, the fun truly starts before then, when gathering together for the annual pre-convention day trip. The pre-convention days have taken on many facades over the years. Sometimes, they're pure fun-and-games. Sometimes they're pure history. Sometimes they're pure industry. But one thing's for sure. They're always pure enjoyment, pure friendship, and one of the best ways ever for newcomers and others to meet-and-greet, in a casual, more intimate way. For many, it's the more-than-perfect way to begin the RPMDA experience.
The Beginning
OKC Bombing Memorial

Gayle Beacock (Beacock Music) has put together a stellar program for 2010. Our convention kicks off with none other than a stellar representative from NAMM, Sandra Kilpatrick Jordan, who will speak to us on the power that music-making has in uniting communities, and how advances in technology make it more accessible to all.

 The Middle

The middle of our convention is always filled with breakout sessions, which are somgems1etimes our rough-hewn gems - those small, yet mighty tidbits that glisten, and get talked about, picked apart, and stolen from for use by other industry groups (as only a great session can, of course). Many times, they're then expounded upon for future program use.

Breakouts are usually mini nuts-and-bolts sessions, and 2010's roster bears that out: there will be sessions applicable to most everyone in our industry, in one way or another. Sacred music, percussion music, marketing our business with technology, group lessons, cutting expenses, and real business solutions - all will be talked about by some of the best contemporaries our industry has to offer.
 The End

musicmeanstome

Rumor has it that our little convention, RPMDA, is a 'working' convention - we get up early, going from session to session, working throughout the day, with nary a break in sight. Well, if that's the case, then when you go to Saturday morning's session, you'll see why we do what we do, every day, and be glad for it. I guarantee there won't be a dry eye in the house, when the What Music Means to Me session is over. It'll be a perfect way to begin the last day of the 2010 RPMDA Convention

A Look to the Future

In the coming weeks, I'll be telling you more - introducing you to some of the clinicians, and delving more deeply into some of the sessions. It's easy to put our convention on the back burner, and not think about it for a while. But actually, it's important to think of it often, now, more than ever, perhaps. It's our unity that makes us strong, and it's our commitment to what we do that makes the difference between those businesses that barely eke it out, and those that see a golden opportunity ahead. Don't you see it? The opportunity? It's right down Route 66!

See you in Oklahoma City!
