Sermon: What's Gotten Into You?
The Apostle Paul declares numerous times in Scripture that the Spirit leads us in a particular way of living. With this in mind, ponder how being a follower of Jesus affects how you approach life, including your values, choices, and priorities. What difference does it make to follow Jesus?
Guest Preacher: Dr. Allan Cole

Music: The Sanctuary Choir will sing "Kyrie (from Messe Sollenelle)" by Louis Vierne at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services.

This Saturday PHPC will host "Nurturing Children in Faith"  by Rev. Dr. Allan Cole from 9 a.m. to noon in Jubilee Hall.

This event is free, just show up on Saturday ready to learn.

This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge regarding:

  • How children form and benefit from learning nurturing perceptions of God
  • How to make prayer more central to your family life
  • How to pray with children and nurture them and their faith
Free workshops for children ages 5 - 12 years of age will relate to the theme of the day. Free child care will be available for ages 0 - 4.

Our speaker, Dr. Allan Cole, is Academic Dean and Professor in the Nancy Taylor Williamson Distinguished Chair of Pastoral Care at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He serves as editor of the Journal of Childhood and Religion and is the author of several books including Losers, Loners, and Rebels: The Spiritual Struggles of Boys.  You can learn more about Allan Cole here.

Parenting Series Continues

Join us February 5 - March 4 for a parenting series led by child development experts. This series is geared towards parents, grandparents, and anyone with an interest in child rearing.

You can come to one or all of the classes that meet Sundays from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. For more information about this series, visit the parenting series page.

This Sunday's topic is Parenting the Strong-Willed Child
Led by Licensed Psychological Associate and Mesquite ISD Behavior Specialist Kelly Smith
Parenting a strong willed child can often leave parents feeling depleted and overwhelmed.  The child/teen's strong reactions and explosive behavior can cause parents and schools to accommodate them (instead of helping them learn useful coping skills).  Many parents end up overreacting or walking on eggshells, but over time these approaches backfire.  In this session, parents will learn to take a practical, proactive and highly relational approach to parenting the strong willed child.

New Short-Term Class Kicks Off The Art of Lent
Art can tap into our imaginations and deepen our experience of Scripture. Explore the diversity and richness of Holy Week art in this three-week series led by Rev. Nicole Bates. This class will meet through March 11 at 9:30 a.m. in Jubilee Hall A.
