Baptism of the Lord, Epiphany, Baptism Sunday
8:15 a.m. Chapel
9:30 and 11 a.m. Sanctuary

Sermon: When Heaven Was Torn Apart
Mark doesn't begin the story of Jesus the way the other gospel writers do. There is no birth story. Instead, Mark goes right to the wilderness scene of Jesus' baptism by John. Mark indicates that the heavens were torn apart; its ragged edges could never be sewn back together. Something has changed forever. What was it?

Preaching: Dr. Blair Monie

Music: The Sanctuary Choir will sing "Gesu Bambino" by Pietro Yon.

Epiphany Cake
Join us for PHPC's annual Epiphany cake outside the chapel after 8:15 a.m. or in the Atrium after 9:30 and 11:00 services.  We celebrate Epiphany with the English tradition of serving a manor house cake with silver crosses baked into the cake. As a reminder of God's small and hidden blessings, some people will find a silver cross hidden in their piece. Finders may keep the cross to wear and enjoy.

North Dallas Shared Ministries Collection

NDSM has also requested also requested carrots, mixed vegetables, refried and black beans, spinach, and baby food. Please leave your donations in the Atrium.

Beginnings of Mark

"Lectionary? I've heard this word a lot in worship but have no idea what it means."

If you've ever thought this, you are not alone! The Lectionary is a
three-year cycle of readings from the Bible. Every Sunday, churches across denominations and around the world read the same Old Testament, Psalm, Gospel, and Epistle readings. This year, the Gospel readings are taken from Mark.

PHPC is offering a three-week short-term study of the Gospel of Mark to help us better understand what we'll read in 2012.

Join us for any or all of the classes Sundays, January 8, 15, and 22, at 9:30 a.m. in N227

You and Your Aging... Version 2012

Fresh and updated with the latest scientific research, our January short-term series, led by church gerontologist Dee Wadsworth, focuses on changes and challenges that you and your aging parent, self, sibling, spouse might face. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 tells us there is a time and a season for all things. It's the nature of the lifespan that we plan for the seasons to come. Are you and your loved ones informed? This series can help as we move past the myths into reality. Handouts will detail the 2012 specifics about aging and how you might proceed with "next steps."

Please join us in Jubilee Hall B at 9:30 a.m. Why not invite a friend or neighbor? All are welcome. This week's topic, health, will feature Dr. Charles Rutherford, orthopedic surgeon. He will answer participant medical questions.
