Communion at the 8:15 service

Sermon: "Set Your Hope"

It has been argued that we cannot live by bread alone or without hope. Since the beginning of creation, God has called us to set our hope in God's promises, in God's steadfastness. Today, we have the chance to choose once again where we will set our hope: in God or the promises of this world?

Preaching: Rev. Elizabeth McLean

Music: At the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services, the Sanctuary Choir will sing "Children of the Almighty God" by Tom Fettke, written in memory of Shirley Myers.

 Sunday's Bulletin l This Sunday's Christian Education

This Sunday is All Saints Sunday

This Sunday, we mark our annual observance of All Saints Day. The names of loved ones in our church family who have died in the past twelve months will be honored in all three worship services. Their names will be included in the bulletin and also read aloud to the tolling of the bell. Sunday's anthem was commissioned through memorial funds given in memory of Shirley Myers, who faithfully served PHPC for eleven years as Executive Assistant to Dr. Blair Monie. It is based on the Charge to the Congregation that Shirley wrote for her memorial service and was composed by Tom Fettke.

If you aren't able to join us this Sunday, you can always listen to our live broadcast at 11 a.m. on 101.1 FM or the live stream through our website at http://www.phpc.org/media.

Also This Sunday:

Daylight Savings Ends! Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night.

Introduction to Islam, Speaker Change for this Sunday:

Every year, Muslims celebrate Eid, a festival day in remembrance of Abraham, our common ancestor. Like Easter, Eid's date varies each year; however, Eid is not calendared in advance. Instead, the date is set by the visibility of the moon. Depending on local atmospheric conditions, Eid is celebrated on different days in different parts of the world.

Eid's celebration in Dallas is November 6, which is also the first Sunday of this short-term Christian Education class. This means that the Imam scheduled to teach cannot be here that day in observance of Eid. Instead, Rev. Nicole Bates will kick off Introduction to Islam with materials to prepare us for Imam Yaseen Shaikh's first class at PHPC on November 13. All are welcome to attend what is sure to be a very informative class.

Youth Flower Sale: The youth will be on the front lawn of the Youth House from 9 - 12:30 p.m. Pick up some tulips, pansies, or kale - and support PHPC youth ministries.

North Dallas Shared Ministries: This Sunday, we will collect donations for the NDSM food bank and clothing closet. The following items are needed: rice, cereal, tuna, macaroni and cheese, soup, peanut butter, pasta, spaghetti sauce, pineapple, sugar, toilet paper, toothpaste, sanitary napkins, bath soap, and laundry soap. NDSM has also requested meat-containing products such as Chef Boyardee ravioli. Please leave your donations in the Atrium.
