In Michigan - A Workshop to Prepare for Forums about the Role of Biomass Production as Part of Our Energy Future
From Wynne Wright - Here in Michigan we are using the National Issues Forums model to organize public forums to discuss a difficult issue - the role of biomass production as part of our energy futures. We think this is a timely topic that impacts a number of states in the Midwest who are rethinking their energy sources and looking to natural resources to replace fossil fuels.

Jewish Dialogue Group Launches New Website

jewishdialoguebookMitch Chanin
, Executive Director of the Jewish Dialogue Group, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has announced the launch of a new Jewish Dialogue Group website.

The new website replaces the original site that began several years ago.  It provides resources for facilitators, and other materials including a guidebook for facilitators titled Constructive Conversations about the Israeli-Palistinian Conflict

National Issues Forums (NIF) is a nonpartisan network of civic, educational, and other organizations and individuals, whose common interest is to promote public deliberation in America.  It has grown to include civic clubs, religious organizations, libraries, schools, and many other groups that meet to deliberate about critical issues.  NIF does not advocate specific solutions or points of view but provides citizens the opportunity to consider a broad range of choices, weigh the pros and cons of those choices, and meet with each other in a public dialogue to identify the concerns they hold in common.

Take Part in a National Conversation about Economic Security

How Should We Take Charge of Our Future?

This year National Issues Forums is holding a national conversation on economic security. Five regional coordinators will analyze the results of these forums and share outcomes at regional events and in Washington, D.C. in the spring of 2011. If you would like to participate, contact your regional coordinator (see article for a list of coordinators). Forums must be held before January 24, 2011.  Forum questionnaires must be submitted by January 31, 2011.

The Kettering Foundation, in partnership with the National Issues Forums Institute, is seeking innovative ways to communicate the results of forums to policy makers.

The public thinking that emerges from forums can provide valuable insights to policy makers about the kinds of things the public is ready to act on, and where the public might need further thinking. We also recognize that the results of forums might be more useful to state policy makers if they are analyzed regionally.

All are invited to participate in this national conversation.
