Editor's Note
Dog Day Afternoon

jada

Dear

I hope you are enjoying all that late summer has to offer, whether that means vacation, finishing up summer projects, or spending more time with family.

For some, getting away to the beach or mountains is the ideal summer treat. For us, it was getting to take care of our neighbor's dog Jada for an afternoon. It wasn't just that she was cute, or well behaved, or super fluffy and fun. Jada was a great communicator.

Hanging out under the dining room table while we were eating was a subtle hint that she was open to snacks, if we were so inclined.

Looking longingly out the window meant two things at alternative times: she missed her owners, and also had to be taken out for her walk.

Walking briskly away from her basket of toys indicated that she wasn't the least bit interested in her new chew bone.

Rolling around on her back was a definite sign that she wanted a belly rub. End of story.

The whole experience was a great reminder that the clearer we ask for what we want in business and in life, the more likely we will get it.

One of the many lessons I got from Jada: I now want a dog! But for now, I'm happy with writing, editing, and working on my 2nd official e-book for a fall launch.

Cheers, (I mean woof!) until next time.

New Video: A Tale of 2 Karens

Two recent "Karen-related" experiences inspired me to make this video. Thanks to subscriber Karen Kefauver for reprinting one of my July e-news stories on her blog, and thanks to new client Karen Brunett for giving me the chance to work on a great Family History editing project!

Forget the aftershave, let's hit the library. Kudos to the students at Brigham & Young, who put together a rockin' parody and made an adventure out of going there.

*A Few Words about ROI

Don't get too bogged down in metrics when it comes to social media. For consultants looking to offer their services, and for business owners hiring social media-ists, they should keep in mind 5 benchmarks:
  1. Number and frequency of one-on-one dialogues
  2. Number of comments (blogs, forums, etc.)
  3. New subscribers to blogs and newsletters
  4. Increased friends, followers, and fans
  5. Increased product sales
