A Video Gift
For You

Greetings!

Greetings, and I hope you are having a wonderful summer. Even so, if you're like me, you've probably found the images from the Gulf Oil spill on the news since April, very disturbing. While the leak has been capped as of this writing, so much damage has been done that it will be decades before it's cleaned up, if indeed it all can be. So what does this have to do with business? Everything. The oil spill reminds us that we are all part of an ecosystem, and that we are all impacted by each other's actions and decisions. Think about this in social media. Think about this with your publications and communications. Think about this with your friends, family, and co-workers. And as a gift to you, I am sharing this 20-second video of something peaceful and beautiful, that moved me at the aquarium. Please enjoy and share.

When my "Dogpreneur" feature came out this week in the Potrero View, of course I was excited, since every writer/publisher/business person loves to get their communications and brand in every way they can. It used to be that when I published an article, I tucked it away in my binder in a neat plastic sleeve, and that was it. Now, of course, we have a million ways to safeguard our stuff -- whether it be articles, memos, business documents, e-mails, etc.  The choices are, of course, yours. Here are
my TOP 4 Cloud Solutions:

1. Google Docs
: A fast and easy way to download and organize your documents, and share links.
What you might not know: you can create new folders in order to organize your documents more easily and refer back to them quickly. After you've downloaded the file, create a new folder and drag and drop the file...easy.

2. Evernote: It seems like everyone loves Evernote, and why not? It's one of the only searchable storage programs out there, and it's fun and easy to use. You can download PDFs, JPG's and Word files.
What you might not know: You need to upgrade to a premium account in order to upload video. Also, there is a feature called a Web Clipper which you can drag and drop into your browser so that you can easily save to Evernote whenever you're on a cool website, without having to open up the program.

3. Boxnet: I first discovered Boxnet when I was looking for an easy way to upload a lot of photos (50+) that could be easily viewed by my parents, who are famous for saying,"I clicked, but nothing happened..."
Boxnet has a great drag and drop feature, so you can download a lot of photos at once in no time. It also features numerous viewing options, such as slide shows, a single image at a time, or layout views.
What you might not know:Boxnet has a new partnership with Docusign (e-signatures), so you can streamline the signing of contracts and other documents and also track their progress online. Just add the program to you Boxnet account and they walk you through it.

4. Scribd: I first learned about Scribd last fall when I attended the Startup Crawl in SOMA. I knew they were cool when I was greeted by Elmor Simpson at the front door, saw their staff engaging in serious games of ping pong, tasted their delicious cupcakes complete with the Scribd logo, and walked away with a fabulous t-shirt. Fun stuff aside, they totally get the document download thing. This week, I uploaded my article and e-book, and was impressed with how fast it was, and with all the sharing features, such as one-stop shopping for all your social media sites.
What you might not know: If you've already stored your files on Google docs, you can automatically upload them to Scribd. Follow the instructions in the main menu where your account screen is. You can also fill in your Profile via your Facebook account.
