Editor's Note
 I'll Have What She's Having...

harrysallyThis time of year when we are thinking a little more about love then usual, a lot of cliches start to emerge.  On the career front, all the messages we get somehow make it seem so easy. Find Your Passion. Do What You Love.  Follow Your Dream. Of course it's not easy. There are obstacles in the way in our personal lives and our careers each day - some smaller, some larger. Sometimes, they even involve emotions and reactions that aren't so great  like fear, jealousy, anxiety. They are just part of being human.

It's important to keep in mind that it's healthy to have these emotions, and particularly in business, when social media makes other people's activities and accomplishments so transparent, it's natural to want what other people might appear to have. The social media guru who just published his or her 10th book. The public relations wizards who got their clients on television  in repeat appearances! The technology geniuses who always grab the latest new gadget and have their video reviews posted the next day on YouTube with 2,000 page views before anyone has even had breakfast.

Throughout my life, I have always felt the best and been rewarded by keeping centered and balanced, and focused on what I need to do. Sure, it's natural to be a little curious about the person at the table behind you. But in the end, we all walk in and out of the coffee shop of life the same way. So if you ever have days when you feel a little distracted or discouraged, or maybe it's hard to love your life the way you think you probably should, go back to your roots. Stick with what you wanted to begin with, because there's a reason you wanted it. And that's no tall order.
