Finding My Niche... Announcing 2 New Focuses for 2010

Welcome to 2010 everyone! I hope the new year is finding you refreshed and excited about your business and activities coming up. A new year is always a great time to regroup and refocus, so in light of that, I am pleased to announce 2 new points of focus for CarrieFreelance: one, a return to my original love of fitness and health writing and web 2.0 communications for clients in this area; and two, an emphasis on food and lifestyles in my writing and communications projects. So in keeping with that, I am thrilled to be attending as Press, the upcoming Yoga Journal Conference in San Francisco, where I'll be reporting back with slides, video, and some cool interviews with up and coming yogis and teachers. And, I'm also excited about the upcoming Fancy Food Show in SF as well, where I'll find out about the latest gourmet treats, trends, and tastes.
I'm also excited about my new e-booklet which will be ready for free download in next month's issue and offered first to you guys as subscribers!
Until then, I hope you'll check in with me on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube (see links above), and have a fantastic January.

Feature Article 4 Ways to Build Credibility for Your Business: Think "S-N-A-P"
Whether you're on the buying or selling side of a business relationship, you want to feel comfortable and trusting of the vendor you are partnering with. If you are building your business, you need to take advantage of the online and other marketing and communications tools out there to establish authority and credibility in your industry. Here are 4 great ways to establish credibility:
1. Speak. Public speaking is a great way to promote your business and also
show your personality, knowledge, and approachability. Work on developing a half hour or hour-long presentation and find local groups in your area such as your library or Rotary Club that plan events and are looking for speakers. You can also develop a "one sheet," or "speaker sheet," that highlights your background, the topics you enjoy speaking on, your appropriate audience, and any publications or awards you have received. I assisted clients last spring with writing and editing several speaker sheets, and I really enjoyed helping them wort through the process and target their selling points.
2. Network. They say we have to view an offer 7-8 times online in order to respond to it. In a similar way, I have found that attending events and meeting some of the same individuals repeatedly, provides a great foundation for your credibility. It shows that you are serious about your career, that you are interested in meeting new people as well as reconnecting with others, and that you understand the value of offline relationships and events as much as social networks and online models.
3. Align. There is power in numbers. A great way to add credibility to your business is to align yourself with other like-minded entrepreneurs in your or a similar field, that you have had the opportunity to establish a rapport. with. Perhaps a group seminar, webinar, or workshop together will jump start your and their businesses.
4. Publish. There are many ways to
build up your writing and article portfolio to enrich your web site and
link to other sites so you can be found on the web. Start a blog, and
look into guest posting on other blogs. Write, or find a consultant to
help you write industry related reports, white papers, or briefs, and
submit them to sites like e-zine or Isnare. Or, you can also submit them
to print magazines and newspapers as columns, articles, or letters to
the editor. Even if the pay is minimal, you still get good exposure by
publicizing your web site address, byline, and social media and other
contact info. Don't forget about e-books, which further establish your credibility and provide you with something tangible to promote with the media.

*How Much Backstory Do You Need to Complete the Picture? We'll always have Paris...right? My holiday viewing of "Casablanca" was not only amazing in its own right, but also got me thinking way more then I planned to about backstory, and how much of the past we need in our writing and marketing to successfully tell our stories...
*Have a Marketing Plan for 2010?
Me and my plan...so happy together... I took time over the holidays between tree hopping, mall shopping, and gingerbread snarfling (not necessarily in that order) to come up with a great 3-part system that really worked for me, and still looks great even now that my sugar buzz is over. It can work well for you too, so check it out here and let me know...

Press Dinner with Enzo Rosano from San Mateo's Acqua Pazza Restaurant, a benefit to raise funds for earthquake torn Abruzzo, Italy.
