Welcome to the first edition of the Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation e-newsletter. This is a monthly publication with updates on current sanctuary happenings. Feel free to share our news with friends!

Wednesday, August 16. Kathylee Regan, our Rescue & Volunteer Coordinator, received several calls from concerned drivers regarding an injured Raccoon who was sitting on the side of Loop 1604 in San Antonio. He had been hit by a car, and had one leg splayed out to his side. Most wild animals when injured by careless drivers will scurry into any nearby brush or hiding place to nurse their wounds, or worse, die. But this brave little Raccoon hobbled and pulled himself off to the shoulder of the road and waited there for help to arrive. We received 5 phone calls about him, each one saying there was something about his eyes that seemed to reach out and plead to them. Each of these callers mentioned his eyes and his look of longing for help.

A WRR volunteer was dispatched to the area and there was the raccoon, waiting, just as we had been told, ready to be taken to the caring hands of our medical team. He calmly and quickly slipped into a transport carrier for the drive to Kendalia. He underwent a lengthy and expensive surgery to repair a spiral fracture in his rear left leg, and he is recovering well in our Clinic. This brave and patirent Raccoon is now a feisty boy who will be released back to his home territory just as soon as his leg heals.
The much anticipated second volume of Lynn Cuny’s touching stories arrives soon, and WRR members are invited to a special Book Preview Party at the Sanctuary on September 30. It will be a chance to visit with Lynn and be one of the first people to read the book. In addition, you will enjoy the rare opportunity to hear Lynn read one of her own stories. Join us at the sanctuary on Saturday, September 30 from 10am-12pm. The reading will take place promptly at 11:00. Call ahead for directions. Don’t miss your chance to get a personally autographed copy of Through Animals’ Eyes, Again. Hardcovers sell for $50 autographed and $25 unsigned. This is a members only party specifically to announce the printing of Lynn’s new book. No sanctuary tours will be conducted.

WRR will be featured in a new Animal Planet 13- week series titled "My New Wild Life" scheduled to air in the Spring 2007. The production crew arrived in Kendalia on August 23 and will be with us 24/7 until mid-October. The series will take a true-to-life look at the animals we serve and the people who care for them.
