We
have something new and exciting we'd like to share with you!
It's
the new
Mary's Hope toolbar!
Once
added to Internet Explorer or Firefox, each time you shop at more than
1,300
stores (from Amazon to Zazzle!) a percentage of your purchase will
automatically be donated to Mary's Hope -
at no cost to you (and you may even save money as the toolbar provides
coupons and deals as well!).
The
toolbar also has a search box
powered by Yahoo, and each time you search
the Internet, about a penny
is donated to Mary's Hope. Those
pennies add up....how often do you search for something on the
Internet???
Won't
you take a couple of minutes and make a huge difference?
to download
the toolbar, and support Mary's Hope work with survivors of
childhood abuse.
A small change in your computer habits will make a HUGE difference
to Mary's Hope and those we serve.
Thanks for your support!

So, What's With the
Dolls?
One of the healing resources we offer here at Mary's Hope is
handmade, child-size dolls--"Healing Kids"--made to order as to gender, ethnicity, hair color
and length, eye color and clothing.
These dolls take many hours of loving labor, and sell for $60.00.

Why would anyone want such a doll? We aren't any of us children anymore. Shouldn't our healing journey be about adult
things?
The truth of the matter is that our healing journey must be
traveled on multiple levels. Yes, our
adult selves need adult things. But, for
me, at least, my adult self has been overdeveloped in order to compensate for
the pain that my little inner child has carried these, oh so many years. I have forgotten how to play, how to be
silly, how to not take myself so seriously.
And, I have stuffed the pain that my little girl carries way down in my
body....stuffed it with addiction, with dissociation, with denial. And I need a way to get through to that pain,
in order to expose it to the light of truth and let it be healed.
I know someone who uses a stuffed green frog to get in touch
with his inner child. And, another, a
teddy bear. For me, my doll helps me do
that. My doll and I have rocked for
hours....giving my little child the nurturing care that she missed as a toddler. My doll and I have cuddled in bed, when we
are fearful of change...those alligators that are still under the bed,
somehow. My doll and I have faced hard
truths...she has been the voice for me when my adult self would rather pretend
nothing is wrong. When I pick her up, I
realize that there is a part of me that craves attention, understanding and
love. A part of me that thought she did
not and would never deserve those things.
A part of me that believed truly that I was a mistake of God.
My doll brings that part of me out of the darkness of fear
and denial, helps me get in touch with my little girl, and reminds me that I
was too small to have been responsible for what happened to me. And...I get some really amusing looks as I
carry my doll in the elevator up to therapy!
That is another way she helps me...I am learning to take myself, and how
other see me, much less seriously! And
that is a big step in our healing journey--my little girl's and mine!
If you, or someone you know, would like a "Healing Kid" for your very
own...give us a call at the Mary's Hope office.
We'd love to help you bring your inner child to "life".

A Note of Thanks for
our Latest "Healing Kid"
She is so
beautiful and perfect in every way - the exact right size, clothes, hair,
everything. I would not change one thing
about her. I could tell immediately that
she was made with healing prayers. I
absolutely love her!
Thank you so
much for taking the time to do this for me. I was never able to find a doll in the store
that would work for me over the years. I guess it was because I was supposed to
get this one from you instead. I will treasure her always and remember that you
made her for me with love.
...from a
survivor who asked us to make a Healing
Kid for her.
