| President's Message |
 Greetings,
This has been an extremely exciting year, and amazingly it has already come to an end. We kicked off the year by providing a "Town Hall" discussion platform during our first dinner meeting, which was held on February 10, 2009. This dinner meeting was extremely insightful and invigorating and enabled us to share ideas with respect to GAP and our profession. In May, we had our first Career Workshop, which was held on Emory University's Briarcliff campus. This workshop included CLE seminars for entry-level and experienced paralegals alike. Roundtable discussions were held in order to provide career advice from legal recruiters, as well as experienced, senior-level paralegals. This event was extremely successful and is still being talked about among peers. Click here for full article...
I challenge each of you to get more involved in your organization and in the community, which are ways for us as paralegals to increase our exposure and move to the next level as professionals and as a professional organization.
I am extremely excited about the upcoming year and look forward to, with your help, making 2010 the best year in GAP's history.
Happy Holidays! |

Report on GAP's Fall Seminar
by Karen Prouty, RP (GAP's Vice President) |
On Saturday, November 7th, GAP partnered with Emory's Paralegal Program to provide a continuing legal education (CLE) seminar titled "No Time for Falling Back". The seminar was held at Emory's Center for Lifelong Learning and was approved by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) for 2.6 hours of CLE credit. With more than 80 attendees, this seminar was one of GAP's most well-attended events of 2009. Attendees ranged from new students and paralegals to seasoned veterans. Click here for full article...
GAP would like to express our appreciation to our seminar speakers, to Georgia Davidson and Jennifer John of Emory's Paralegal Program for their support, and to GAP's President, Kevin Fogle and volunteer Beth Magee for all of their hard work in making this CLE such a success. Thank you also to everyone who participated in the seminar. |
| Paralegal Week 2009
by Kevin O. Fogle (GAP President) |
This year GAP joined forces with the Gate City Bar Association's Paralegal Section to host a week-long celebration of paralegals and our contribution to the legal community. Governor Sonny Perdue signed a proclamation declaring Friday, June 12, 2009 "Paralegal Day" and we not only thought it necessary to celebrate that day, but to celebrate for the entire week leading up to it, which we unofficially called "Paralegal Week".
Paralegal Week 2009 proved to be a great success. Participation and enthusiasm was up and we have received a great deal of positive feedback. We look forward to another successful Paralegal Week in 2010. |
| Report on the 2009 NFPA Convention
by LaShonda Dillard (GAP's Primary to NFPA) |
During the week of October 29 through November 1, 2009, NFPA held its Annual Convention and Policy Meeting in Portland, Oregon (Region I). GAP sent its Primary (LaShonda Dillard), Secondary (K. Paezle' Harris, RP, CLA), and President (Kevin O. Fogle) to represent its membership at the convention.
NFPA has a total of 10,035 paralegal and student members from 54 Member Associations. The most recent associations to join NFPA are: National Association of Licensed Paralegals in England; Missouri Paralegal Association; Paralegal Association of Wisconsin; and Scottish Paralegal Association of Scotland. Out of the 54 Member Associations, 46 were present and had delegates credentialed for the Policy Meeting.

I want to thank GAP for allowing me to represent its members at the NFPA Annual Convention. Not only did I have the opportunity to be a part of deciding on resolutions affecting NFPA presently, but I also experienced being on the frontline of making a difference in its future! I will serve as GAP's NFPA Primary for the 2010 term as well. Should any member have questions or want to discuss any part of this article in more detail, please email me at nfpapr@gaparalegal.org. |
