Baby Gray Foxes, Caspian Terns, and Otters...Oh my!

ESF's on YouTube

You may have seen the incredible photograph of an otter holding a video camera in the paper last month. Now hear the story from the photographer himself. Enrique Aquirre gave ESF an exclusive interview and we've got it on YouTube for all to enjoy.

Elkhorn Slough lands provide great opportunities to witness wildlife in their natural habitat. ESF put together several short videos- one of baby gray foxes playing and another exploring Caspian Terns on the slough. To watch the videos, simply click on the link below. Please share them and spread the word.

ESF Welcomes Two New Board Members

The Elkhorn Slough Foundation (ESF) is fortunate to have a group of talented and committed individuals serving as our Board of Directors. This Board helps guide ESF in our work as a land trust and friend to the Elkhorn Slough Reserve and provides input on and oversight for our land acquisitions, stewardship, and financial management programs.

In January we expanded the talents of the Board to include biologist Judith Connor of MBARI and Mary Wright, retired Deputy Director of the California Department of Parks and Recreation. If you would like to learn more about the ESF Board, we have posted photographs and brief biographies on the web site.

Stewardship Volunteer Opportunities

Spend some time on the Slough!

The Elkhorn Slough relies on volunteers, like you, to help conserve and preserve this important ecosystem. Upcoming opportunities include:

  • Saturday, March 7th- Help us remove non-native weeds on beautiful Hummingbird Island! The island has been the focus of long-running volunteer restoration and native plant gardening projects, with great success. 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday, March 11th- Help us bring the native plants back to Elkhorn Slough. Our main focus will be planting and weeding the demonstration garden. 9am-12pm

Volunteering is a great way to learn more about the watershed, experience first-hand the abundance of plant and animal life, and make an important difference in the community. Come alone or bring a friend!

1% for the Planet

The Elkhorn Slough Foundation is proud to announce that we have been selected as an eligible recipient for 1% for the Planet program! 1% for the Planet is a growing global movement of 1,079 companies that donate 1% of their sales to a network of 1,717 environmental organizations worldwide. Over 250 California businesses give directly to the eligible environmental organizations, choosing which environmental group to give 1% of their profits, and helping to foster lasting ties and a sense of community. If your business participates, encourage them to choose the Elkhorn Slough Foundation as their nonprofit. If your business isn't currently involved, learn how to participate.

The Elkhorn Slough Foundation is a nonprofit, community-supported organization working to conserve and restore Elkhorn Slough and its watershed. The Foundation works with local, state, and national constituencies to protect our natural heritage.
