    Starting Stubborn Diesel Engines
Just Say No To Ether - by Gordon Torresen

Nearly every week customers post inquiry to the Torresen Marine Diesel Direct forum asking about how to overcome starting difficulties with their diesel engine. Nearly as often, the subject of starting fluids and ether accompanies the conversation. It appears that we all want a quick fix. Instead of getting to the root of the problem we look for a magic potion

What is a Vessel Safety Check? It is a free check of a vessel's equipment for compliance with federal, state and local safety requirements. Some of the items checked are:

    Proper display of numbers
    Registration/Documentation
    Personal Flotation devices
    Visual distress signals
    Fire extinguishers
    Ventilation
    Backfire Flame Control
    Sound Producing Devices
    Navigation Lights
    State & Local Requirements
    Overall Vessel Condition

During the Vessel Safety Check, the vessel examiner has an opportunity to discuss with a fellow boater the purpose of the marine safety equipment, to clarify various federal, state and local regulations, to review local boating conditions, to answer any boating- related safety questions and to encourage additional boater education.

Do take this opportunity to have a safe boating season. Sign in at the Torresen Ship Store for this inspection. If you have any questions regarding this program you may contact:

    2007 Sailing Season Update
    by Peter Blacklock

For many Midwest sailors the 2007 season is a quarter over. They did not wait for the Spring Solstice to get started on this season's activities. Some racers went south for the midwinter regattas and for the premier events such as Key West Race Week and the Miami Rolex Trophy races.

Warpath Wins Rolex Farr 40 North American Championship
Outstanding Victory Earns the Acura Miami Grand Prix Boat of the Week Award

    Introduction by Brian Torresen

Winter finally seems to have released its grip on Western Michigan. The first few boats are going in the water and the local crews are gearing up for this summer's racing season. While most of the boats up here have been laid up for the past six months, there was still plenty of racing happening around the world in warmer climates.

I had the good fortune to find myself sailing on Steve and Fred Howe's Farr 40 "Warpath" during Key West Race Week in late January and the Acura SORC regatta in Miami in March. The "Warpath" is based out of San Diego but finds itself sailing all over the world at different Grand Prix Farr 40 events. The crew is made up of professional and amateur sailors from all over the world. I've been sailing on the boat for three years and this year's Miami regatta was the most exciting by far. Our results in Miami have the whole crew looking forward to this summer's Farr 40 World Championships in Copenhagen Denmark.

The following article sums up this winter's exciting racing in Southern Florida.
