| Body Cleanse in the Spring |
Q: Is a body cleanse, at this time of year, a "spring housecleaning?" A: Actually, it is. The weather improves and you throw open the windows and let the fresh air in. You ventilate the home and clean it. It's a new season, and so you make the house new again. The body needs something like that, too. Q: Why? A: Because during the winter months, the tendency of the body is to become a bit slower. A person might gain weight, and in the process the fat cells store more accumulated toxins. Q: So part of the cleanse involves getting rid of these toxins. A: Yes. In our protocol at SCICN, we target the fat cells and the digestive tract. We do it gently. (Contact us here at SCICN: 800-608-5602) Q: What potentially harmful toxins are eliminated? A: Chemicals in foods, beverages, medicines, skin care products, and environmental pollutants. These are a few examples. Q: What's the result of the cleansing detox protocol? A: The person feels more energy. More life. The body doesn't need to focus its attention on storing toxins, because instead they're released and led "out of hibernation" and excreted. Overall biological function improves. Here are specific benefits:
- More energy and vitality
- Fuller bowel elimination
- Less gas and bloating
- Better skin
- Less water retention
- Elimination of allergy symptoms
- Fewer cravings
- Relief from pain, arthritis and fibromyalgia
Q: And what is the protocol for doing this cleanse? A: We use a special drink or "medical food", as it is called, that contains the highest quality nutrients to accomplish detoxification. These substances include certain amino acids, antioxidants, enzymes, and herbal extracts. Q: What is the overall process by which detoxification takes place? A: Potentially harmful chemicals that can only dissolve in fat are transformed, so they can dissolve in water-and then these altered chemicals can be eliminated from the body, through the kidneys, skin, colon, liver and gallbladder. Q: Eliminated as urine, sweat, mucus or feces? A: That's right. Q: Is this cleanse only done in the spring? A: Spring is a good time for it, but we use our detox protocol whenever we see that the individual patient needs it. Jon Rappoport is now writing the SCICN newsletters, based on the research of Dr. Laura Thompson. Laura's husband, Jon has had a 25-year career as a health and political reporter.

I am a seasoned cleanser, myself. I used to do a liver and bowel cleanse every season. That made sense to me. It still does. I probably do about 2 per year now. I have used several very successful cleansing protocols with my clients in the past 22 years. Some programs work better for some people than others. You've heard about some of them: juice fasts, liver cleanses that have you drinking olive oil, the Master Cleanse, and more. These may work for you, but they may not. It is best to choose a cleansing program that fits the individual. This is why I employ several different strategies. If you are currently a patient at our clinic, just ask me at your next appointment. If you're not a patient, feel free to call us for our suggestions. One of my favorite cleanses utilizes a "medical food" protein powder to address liver support and detoxification. Powerful antioxidants have been included in this formula to improve the growth and repair of liver cells, and to increase bile solubility. Key amino acids and digestive enzymes are included to promote the breakdown and utilization of fat and elimination of toxic waste. I use a term -- "total load"-- and define it as the sum total of the toxins that reside in our bodies - pesticides, harmful hormones from animal products, chemicals in body care products, industrial pollutants, automotive pollutants, heavy metals and so on. These substances accumulate and you don't necessarily feel anything --- but you gain weight, you feel sluggish, your bowels don't "work" right, you retain water, your joints and muscles ache, and you don't feel like yourself. Your brain chemistry and hormones can become unbalanced when your body has accumulated a "toxic total load". (By the way, as a hormone specialist, I have found it extremely helpful to have someone do a liver cleanse to expedite hormonal balance. The liver is involved in the hormonal pathways.) The most important thing to remember for a cleansing program to be comfortable and successful, is not only should the bowels and kidneys be eliminating regularly, but the cells should be able to dump their toxins as well. If they don't, then you don't have a successful cleanse. I'll leave that part of the discussion to Donna Loftin (she speaks below) because that is her specialty. Chances are if you've read this far in the newsletter, you are interested in doing some type of cleanse and experiencing newness. Shedding winter's coat is a good thing in the spring. Most people feel like a weight has been lifted. They feel clean inside and can think more clearly. Your body deserves a deep cleansing at least once a year. When you think of it, we clean ourselves externally every day, but how often do we internally cleanse?

Certain nutritional factors play extremely important roles in the proper functioning of the cellular cleansing processes. The natural detoxifying ability of the body will deteriorate if these nutrients are lacking or are found to be deficient at the cellular level. So, ask yourself - if the deep cell is full of environmental and biological toxins, is there any room for cell-building nutrients? The answer is no. When most people think of a "Detox Program," they only think of cleansing the colon. But what if the other eliminating pathways are congested or sluggish and full of toxins? What happens if the liver, kidneys, skin, lungs as well as the colon can't handle the toxic load they already have and you are about to release more into these vital filtering and flow systems of the body? Of course, you create a "big toxic mess" that pushes more toxins into the deep cell, thereby creating a dangerous increase in the "total toxic load". So how do you move those toxins out of the deep cell? With remedies that are called "drainage formulas" - and these can be customized. As a specialist in customized homeopathic remedies, I can't imagine not using custom remedies throughout the detoxification process. Through saliva inversion, these remedies are keyed to the specific toxins in your unique body and help open the elimination pathways and stimulate the cellular release of toxins. Both Laura and I advocate supervised detoxification programs that are customized for each client. We have seen over and over again how devastating an unsupervised Detox program can be to some. We have a number of clients who used to do unsupervised Detox programs, such as the Master Cleanse or a basic colon cleanse and ended up feeling pretty crummy. Now they give us a call in the Spring and Fall for their custom cleansing programs. Hope to see you soon for your Spring cleaning needs. inversion. It has been our experience that our clients are accomplishing balance faster than ever before, when we address basic Cell Communication through custom remedies. You just can't lose when you address the body with all these innovative ways to achieve better health and a better-quality of life. I get to see miracles happen every day!
