"And you shall eat the [abundant] old store of produce long kept, and clear out the old [to make room] for the new..." -The Greatest Love Story Ever Told
What new things are you making room for in your life?
When you take care of the clients and opportunities you currently have, you inevitably make room for new ones.
- If you want new clothes or shoes, you must clear out your closet of the old ones (give them away.)
- If you want a new car, you must clear out your garage with one of the old ones.
- If you want new health, you must clear out the old eating and exercise habits.
There is no need to ask for something new until you make room for it.
In our for profit organization (www.ernenterprises.org) we work as patient and provider advocates defending medically appropriate healthcare and do not believe we will get more cases if we are not closing out the ones we already have.
In other words, God will not send us new cases until we make room for them by closing out (resolving) the existing ones.
We have developed a culture, not just a brand. In reading a recent INC. article by Leigh Buchanan, the author wrote:
"Leaders of early stage companies don't lavish a lot of time on culture. Their attention is turned outward, toward the customers, lenders, and investors who will breathe financial life into their ideas. Employees-there are but a handful-are presumably content. Hey, they're still there, aren't they? They're getting paid. Anyway, isn't the excitement of a young company a kind of culture in itself? Life on the precipice. Adrenaline in the water coolers. And so, leaders put off the heavy work of erecting the scaffolding of values, policies, shared beliefs, rewards, rituals and visual elements that constitute culture. In that void, culture happens spontaneously: an aggregation of particular decisions made by particular people in particular circumstances...But some entrepreneurs possess clear visions of their ideal cultures from the beginning. Every decision they make-whom to hire, what benefits to provide, where the CEO should sit-is in pursuit of those ideals. In fact, the opportunity to derive an entire social order from the leader's character and experience can be an incentive for starting a company in the first place. Ask a founder why he designed his company a certain way, and he's as likely to tell you what he was reacting against as what he was striving for."
It's funny how working for the wrong leader or company in your life helps shape and create the right one or a new social order for the future.
In our company, we have established a "social order" or certain core tenets of compliance, transparency, accountability and humanity in how we advocate for the rights of consumers and providers. Here are a few core values to help you create your own.
vWe believe that our actions and words determine life or death for patients.
Therefore, we have developed specialty based, self organizing teams for employees to manage client satisfaction by placing each employee on a certain team to train them how to challenge improper denials of medically appropriate healthcare and regulatory agencies that have jurisdiction over HMOs, Workers' Compensation, ERISA and Veteran claims.
In other words, we pay and train employees how to become an authority in administrative laws that govern the health care delivery system and protect the Nation's emergency safety net.
Realizing our words are powerful, we employ them to change the destiny of others (see a quick video illustrating how HERE.)
v We have a bias for action and an incurable need for results.
Therefore, we have developed collaborative client teams that learn, brainstorm, share and train each other by sharing best practices and inspiring new or extreme practices.
We have fostered an atmosphere of helping clients so significantly, that a culture and mindset to return the favor is constantly in motion to give in appreciation of what they have received, what they already possess.
Just this last week, one of our Case Managers from a large hospital chain, helped a new Case Manager from a much smaller Critical Access Hospital with some tips to start a new Case management department.
vWe act with honesty, humility, responsibility and integrity.
Therefore, we are not presumptuous to believe that we are successful solely because of preparation, authority or identity. While preparation prepares us to advance confidently, King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, once wrote: "The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance and victory are of the Lord." (Prov. 21:31.)
The only thing that we can guarantee is our preparation and hard work. God works out all the rest by opening doors that no man can shut.
A few other core values that distinguish our company culture from others:
· We lay our hands on cases as they come into Case Intake, praying for favor and justice to prevail.
· We don't believe in pursuing employees of our provider members, while employed, no matter how many times they pursue us.
· We don't believe in disparaging competitors who disparage us.
King Solomon, the wisest king who ever lived, once wrote: "Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house." (Pr 17:14)
You cannot reward people based of what you received from them.
You must reward them based on what you have received from God. That's what makes us different and distinguishable in Christ.
When you reward evil for evil, railing for railing, accusation for accusation, the evil that is already present in your decision does not depart your house.
In other words, it doesn't affect the other person; it only affects you. But when you are determined to reward good for evil, GOOD DOES NOT DEPART FROM YOUR HOUSE.
It's exciting to know that God is faithful to supply the constant expectation of good you consistently dispense to others.
Today, what is the culture in your department, business, home, marriage or ministry? What type of culture or core values inspires your "team" to be different and ten times better than others?
Regardless of what people have done, don't let the decisions and bad will of others determine the blessing or values on your house (and life.)
Cultivate the lives of others through your culture; breathe innovation through your brand. Be different. Create a brand, marriage and culture that is unparalleled in your industry or city.
And UNLEASH this innovation to nations.
NOTE: I would love to hear of your culture that marks your brand, church or home in the industry and city you are in to share with our new start up members. EMAIL us today.
