"IF YOU will return, O Israel, says the Lord, IF you will return to Me, and IF you will put away your abominable false gods out of My sight and not stray or waver, and if you swear, As the Lord lives, in truth, in judgment and justice, and in righteousness (uprightness in every area and relation), THEN THE NATIONS WILL BLESS THEMSELVES IN HIM AND IN HIM WILL THEY GLORY. For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: Break up your ground left uncultivated for a season, so that you may not sow among thorns." -The Greatest Love Story Ever Told

You cannot sow in an area of neglect without breaking a bad habit or pulling up weeds.

You must break up the ground where you have failed to cultivate your career, clients, marriage, finances, health, ministry and dreams.

Weeds and neglect destroy relationships, growth and potential.  When thorns are present, they will choke whatever you are trying to harvest.  So, there must come a breaking up of shallow ground and sowing (in effort, obedience, faith, etc.)  We must refuse to cut corners if we are going to build a legacy.

Sometimes we approach God with sheer hypocrisy, acting or appearing as if we want to change.

BUT HE KNOWS THE DIFFERENCE.  He demands a heart and mind change; because if the tares (or weeds) grow with the wheat together, eventually everything has to be destroyed (or burned.)  When we "truly" return to Him, God heals our faithlessness.  When we return to Him (pull up weeds) and determine not to stray or waver, we bless ourselves in Him.

Friend, God has never lost faith in you.

He always wants to build deep into the soil of your heart and pull out deep-seated roots.  Because the deeper the generational weed (or root), the higher and stronger it grows and poisons our lives and the next generation.

What area of your life and dreams have you left uncultivated?

Dictionary.com defines that word "cultivated" as:
  • To prepare and work on (land) in order to raise crops.
  • To promote or improve the growth of something (a plant, crop, etc.) by labor and attention.
  • To develop or improve by education or training;
  • To devote oneself or promote the growth or development of (an art, science, etc.);
QUESTION: What was the last book you read (from start to finish?); what was the last course you completed, skill you added, chapter/song you wrote, scripture you prayed (and applied), credit report you reviewed (to get out of debt), budget you created, checkbook you balanced, exam you registered for?

Princeton world web defines "cultivated" as:
  • The socialization through training and education to develop one's mind or manners;
  • To polish: a highly developed state of perfection; having a flawless or impeccable quality;
  • The process of fostering the growth of something.

Weed control is the most important function of cultivation.

Cultivation is designed to kill weeds or whatever can kill the seeds you have planted in your life.

No one uproots weeds in the garden of others.  You don't get a gardening hoe, walk down the street and start tearing into your neighbor's garden.  You only uproot and deal with the weeds that exist in yours.

Likewise, change begins with you.

And like a person's front yard, everyone can identify the neglect and unfulfilled potential in our lives.

King Solomon wrote: "I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, behold, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles were covering its face, and its stone wall was broken down"  (Prov. 24:29-31.)

Whatever area of your life that is left "uncultivated," God withholds showers.

He will not send rain to grow weeds in your life.

"Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no spring rain." (Jer. 3:3)

Sometimes to unclog the blessing, if we will not hear His Word, God has to send the most unlikely person to identify weeds; To explain why nothing is working and instruct you how to release His rain (or favor) again.

Humanity fails us in this area, yet God is unfailing; He refuses to leave us where we are at.  He will not retain or keep His anger forever (to the end) when you return to Him.
But He is not obligated to do anything for you until then.

And when you do, herein lies an incredible promise:

"And it shall be that when you have multiplied and increased in the land in those days (IN YOUR RETURN TO HIM), says the Lord, they shall no more say, The ark of the covenant of the Lord. It shall not come to mind, nor shall they [seriously] remember it, nor shall they miss or visit it, nor shall it be repaired or made again [for instead of the ark, which represented God's presence, He will show Himself to be present throughout the city]." (Jer. 3:16)

God wants to show up in your city, industry and workplace.

He wants you to multiply and increase you so greatly that you forget the old method, perspective or place He used to bless you in.

Throughout the history of humanity, God has constantly connected drastic turnarounds, favor and promotion to a change in geographic regions or people He sent them to:

  • To Abraham, He said, "Go for yourself [for your own advantage] away from your country, from your relatives and your father's house, to the land that I will show you."
  • To Elijah, when his brook dried up, He said, "Go to Zaraphath for I have commanded a widow woman to sustain you there." (BECAUSE YOU CANNOT STAY IN A PLACE THAT GOD HAS NOT COMMANDED TO BLESS YOU.)
  • To Isaac, when there was a famine in the land, He said, "Do not go down to Egypt; Dwell temporarily in this land, and I will be with you and will favor you with blessings;"
  • To a washed up Moses (in a dead end job), He said, "Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth My people, the Israelites, out of Egypt."(A call to obedience in which Moses derived His fame from.)
  • He told Joseph and Mary, "Get up! [Tenderly] take unto you the young Child and His mother and flee to Egypt; and remain there till I tell you [otherwise], for Herod intends to search for the Child in order to destroy Him."
  • Jesus commanded his disciples (leadership team) "Not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised."
  • He told Paul, "You must stand before Caesar."

Today, where has He told you to go?

What ground (or territory) have you left uncultivated?

What weeds (habits) are trying to choke the plan, purpose, destiny, dream and desire of God in your life?

You can always recover.  It has only been uncultivated for a season.

There is no excuse for staying where you are at.  You have an incredible opportunity to fly under the radar at unprecedented speeds while no one knows your name as you develop the potential that lies inside you.
