"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."

"For it will come to pass in that day, says the Lord of hosts, that I will break [the oppressor's] yoke from your neck, and I will burst your bonds; and strangers will no more make slaves of [the people of Israel].  But they will serve the Lord their God and David's [descendant] their King, Whom I will raise up for them.  Therefore fear not, O My servant Jacob, says the Lord, nor be dismayed or cast down, O Israel; for behold, I will save you out of a distant land [of exile] and your posterity from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease, and none will make him afraid or cause him to be terrorized and to tremble.  For I am with you, says the Lord, to save you; for I will make a full and complete end of all the nations to which I have scattered you, but I will not make a full and complete end of you." - The Greatest Love Story Ever Told

God wants to save you out of a distant promise; a distant dream or goal; a distant relationship pattern that has ruined previous generations.

God's people were distant from the promise.  It seemed like they'd never recover or restore the days of old.

But God made them a promise that although others may fail or be consumed, He would not make a full and complete end of them.

That they would be quiet and at ease; that strangers or a strange land would not rule or have dominion over them, if only a song would flow out of their city (or circumstance.)

In the previous chapter, God had just told His children that they would spend the next 70 years in captivity because of bad choices (disobedience), yet, at the end, promises:

"I will visit you and keep My good promise to you, causing you to return to this place.  For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome."

But a chapter later, their song is missing.

So, God inspires them to sing.  In Ps. 137:2-4, we read how the children of God recorded their "songless" spiritual state in exile:

"On the willow trees in the midst of [Babylon] we hung our harps. For there they who led us captive required of us a song with words, and our tormentors AND THEY WHO WASTED US required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.  How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?"

The enemy is always after your song.

He is always after your joy, your shout, because it carries praise, deliverance, conquest and prophetic alignment to the divine strategy and plan of God.  You see, a songless generation is a dying generation.

RIGHT NOW, will you dare sing a song of thanksgiving in a strange land (an unfavorable place or disposition that you've never been at before; a place of temporary confusion?)

Dictionary.com defines the word song as: an elaborate vocal signal produced as the distinctive sound in a courtship or territorial display.  A courtship is "The wooing of one person by another."

If the enemy can silence your song, he can silence your relationship with God (out of which flow your supernatural ability, authority, creativity, dreams, potential and purpose to change your destiny.)

When your song is gone, all that is left is religion.

Think about it, there is really no genuine intimacy (or relationship) without a song.

  • When you sing to that child at bedtime, fear and anxiety dissolves and they fall fast asleep.
  • When you sing to that spouse, intimacy and love blossoms again.
  • Likewise, when you sing to God, despite where you are, the Heavens open to restore and multiply you regardless of how small of a job, place or city you are in.

Don't let anything steal your song.

Jeremiah 30:17-20 continued:

"For I will restore health to you, and I will heal your wounds, says the Lord, because they have called you an outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no one seeks after and for whom no one cares! Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will release from captivity the tents of Jacob and have mercy on his dwelling places; the city will be rebuilt on its own [old] moundlike site, and the palace will be dwelt in after its former fashion. Out of them [city and palace] will come songs of thanksgiving and the voices of those who make merry. And I will multiply them, and they will not be few; I will also glorify them, and they will not be small.  Their children too shall be as in former times, and their congregation shall be established before Me, and I will punish all who oppress them."

God cares for you.

And He punishes your opposition with a songIts funny, you always get to the destination you are driving to quickest and safest while singing SONGS.

In Exodus 15, Miriam sung a song of thanksgiving after the Red Sea victory.  Every season or circumstance demands one.

Doctor Wendy Magee, International Fellow in Music Therapy at London's Institute of Neuropalliative Rehabilitation, describes music as a "mega-vitamin for the brain," capable of influencing and improving motor function, communication and even cognition. "When neural pathways are damaged for one particular function such as language, musical neural pathways are actually much more complex and much more widespread within the brain," Magee told CNN. "Music seems to find re-routed paths...and can help to find new pathways in terms of brain functioning."

Countless times, champions of industry in the Bible have exhorted us to sing.  My Pastor said this past Sunday, "The greater the warfare, the greater demands on your worship."

So today, SING!  You were created to worship, not worry.

And you are living proof that the enemy, despite throwing his best shot, has not won.

SING NOW.
