The Evidence of INFLUENCE! |
|
"Better is he who is lightly esteemed but works for his own support than he who assumes honor for himself and lacks bread." - Proverbs
You can't fool the people you are leading.
The people we lead make daily assessments of the ownership, sacrifice, commitment and results that follow our lives.
They can see when a good investment (of their time) has gone bad and determine if they will go the extra mile depending on the number of times you have. They chase milestones as they see them set within the organization.
That's why, being famous means nothing if you are not influential.
Your ability to influence people and the power to get wealth (into your hands) is a key determinant to accomplishing all that is in your heart. Hard times will come. So, your ability to influence and navigate people through them is critical to your success.
But influence must flow TO YOU before it flows THROUGH YOU.
Dictionary.com defines "influence" as: authority, charisma, clout, control, dominance, drive, force, incentive, incitement, leverage; it is to affect, sway, move or impel (a person) to some action.
What are you driving under the influence of?
Is there enough evidence of influence in your life to convict others to follow you?
Your influence is a witness for Christ. How you pay bills, people and dues either honors or dishonors Him. The Author writes, "Better is he who is lightly esteemed but works for his own support..."
- What type of influence does your work ethic inspire?
- What achievement or project has been birthed out of your influence this past year?
Your influence should produce faith, inspiration, results, growth and leaders (champions) in those you reach, teach, train and touch daily.
Your people will go as far as you lead them.
When you stop leading passionately and increasing your influence, they will stop pursuit of the vision. You must lead until you reach your destination. You cannot lead halfway, falter (or give up spiritually) and expect others to arrive at the mountaintop (or promise) without leadership intensity.
God told Moses: "Get up to the top of Pisgah and lift up your eyes westward and northward and southward and eastward, and behold it with your eyes, for you shall not go over this Jordan. But charge Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he shall go over before this people and he shall cause them to possess the land which you shall see." -Dt. 3:27-28
One of the greatest mistakes we can make as leaders is to create a mission statement or vision that only includes our job description, sounds good on paper and fails to extend an invitation to others. Your vision must attract and recruit people to help attain it. Your vision must tell people how and where they can get involved (and sign up) to bring what God has promised to pass.
SHOW PEOPLE THEIR PLACE; WHERE THEY CAN FILL VOIDS AND THEY WILL WALK THROUGH BRICK WALLS FOR YOU.
People hate monotony (boredom, dullness or the status quo.)
The people you lead want to experience a sense of hunger, fulfillment, excitement and progress in pursuit of the goal or dream.
Can you identify what part of your organization's vision is most significant to people?
· Have you asked?
· What part of your vision do people feel they can most make a difference, impact and leave a legacy?
- How will you energize your vision and the method by which you arrive at your destination in 2009?
"Vision without action is a daydream and action without vision is a nightmare." - Unknown Proverb
Vision gets lost over time.
It's up to you to change the lenses once in awhile to improve clarity.
Jon Goldman writes: "As the leader of a company you embody the brand. Don't hide behind your brand. Be a public face. Then people will want to talk to you, tell you their raving happy stories and even their furious angry complaints. For years, conventional wisdom has said, "Pretend you are big even when you are not to gain credibility. WRONG! Pretend you are small (approachable) even when you are big."
Today, you have no right to leadership if no one is following you. New members, clients and staff signify an increase in your authority (and visibility) in an industry or region.
Measure and improve what you want to grow.
Challenge your staff, "If we were a subordinate, client or member or coach, what would be our biggest complaint?
Then work together to create corrective action plans to improve your brand and vision in the eyes of God and man.
My wife started this year out with a powerful promise in Genesis:
"The Lord said to Abram after Lot had left him, Lift up now your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; For ALL THE LAND WHICH YOU SEE I will give to you and to your posterity forever."
When you separate yourself from strife and contention (within and without), God grants you whatever territory you can dream (see), or imagine.
Produce your cause; set forth your case.
The world may be our jury, but God is our judge!
