Focus on the Field: Clinic Uses Mobile Resources to Reach Migrant Community
A new program targeted to provide mobile health care to farm workers has gained the trust of local migrant workers and growers through providing low cost health care since June of 2011 in Kent and Western Sussex Counties in Delaware. Westside Family Healthcare (WFH) began in 1988 and now has five locations with the "mission to provide equal access to quality healthcare, regardless of ability to pay." Some of Westside's services include: family medical care; bilingual (Spanish/English) care and translation; financial aid assistance and low cost medications.

WFH collaborated with community organizations and helped develop a farm worker health advisory council. It brings together diverse individuals to "work cooperatively to overcome obstacles such as access to food, housing, education, specialty care, transportation and behavioral and substance abuse programs," said Angeles Lo Piccolo, MPH, RN, Director of Farm Worker Health Services at WFH. She says she has a great sense of satisfaction from seeing patients learn to manage their own care and has referred several migrant farm workers to Health Network at MCN. With continued funding and as WFH grows, Angeles hopes they will offer dental and behavioral health care to migrant workers and ensure that all farm workers will have access to their services.

| New Resource!
MCN is excited to announce the availability of a new set of bilingual patient education resources aimed at preventing musculoskeletal injuries among farmworkers. ¡CUÍDATE! Una guía para prevenir lesions musculares en el trabajo is an easy to use comic book guide that provides workers with strategies for preventing musculoskeletal injuries. Developed in partnership with the Northeast Center for Agricultural Health and Safety in New York, ¡CUÍDATE! utilizes detailed images paired with simple and concise descriptions to lead workers through a series of stretches to lessen the impact on the body of the repetitive and strenuous activities commonplace in agricultural work. The comic books are available in English and Spanish and provide strategies for safely performing common agricultural tasks, including tips for safe lifting and bending.
