Dear Women of St. Luke Parish,

Fall feels to be upon us, with the temperatures dropping and leaves changing colors.  October brings us many things to think and ponder: the upcoming elections, Breast Cancer Awareness, the Chicago marathon, the month of the Holy Rosary and Pro Life, Domestic Violence Month, pumpkins and costumes, among so much more.   As always, we wish you much luck and God's guidance with them all.

Thank you to SLWC member Anne Marie Swatos for hosting the Mom's Night Out/Back to School Night at Jim's Pour Decision last month.  It was neat to see all of the updating they did and it definitely seemed like a great hot spot, for young and old.

We also want to thank all those who took the time to fill out the SLWC survey click here for survey. We really appreciate all the feedback and plan to use it as we organize for this upcoming year. It's not to late to fill one out and want to hear from you!

The 125th St. Luke Parish Anniversary celebrations continue on Sunday, October 21 at 11am for a special anniversary mass celebrated by Bishop George Rassas and followed by a Gala Reception in the gym.  SLWC member Genie Halloran is coordinating this event.  If you are interested in helping please contact her:  gbhalloran@att.net or 708 366 2686.

SAVE THE DATE for our upcoming 'Bites from Around the World' to be held on Friday, November 9 in Waldron Hall.  Please see below for more information.

We are still trying to form the Biggest Loser/Get Fit Weight group.  Why not try to have fun, get fit, and lose weight? We plan to have another start up meeting next week.  See all details below.

Membership renewals went out this past week click here for renewal.  We really appreciate the tremendous support the club has received this past year and look forward to having you as a new or renewed member.

Lastly, check out the SLWC Bulletin Board section. More information can be found below.  In this area you will be able to submit anything from something you may want to donate or sell, to babysitter availability or needs, to an event/cause that you support.

Thank you for your continued support.

Warmest Regards,

Congratulations!
This summer Amanda Collins, Coordinator of Youth Ministry, asked the SLWC to sponsor a youth ministry candidate for a year long leadership development program called Teen Peer Ministry Formation Program facilitated by the Archdiocese of Chicago.

We were pleased to step up to this sponsorship opportunity and extend our best wishes and congratulations to Marcella Heineke (SLWC member Joanne O'Hara Heineke's daughter).  We hope it's going well and you are learning and enjoying the program Marcella!
Bulletin Board Idea

Why use the SLWC Bulletin Board?

It kinda works like this...

So this spring you stumble upon a practically new pair of penny loafers your son wore once on his First Communion and would love to pass along to someone who may need them this year.

You have bunk beds your kids no longer need; they are in excellent condition and you are looking for a reasonable price for them.

Your oldest daughter needs braces - and you are wondering who's a good orthodontist in the area? Why not ask the community for private recommendations good or bad.

You are volunteer coordinator for a charity race and need more helpers?

Your company has a job posting and you think someone from SLWC community would make for a good fit.

You have a singing gig at House Red and would love to tell your SLWC friends about it..

Above are just some examples of what and why you would use the SLWC bulletin board.  Don't hesitate to throw something our way if you are unsure if it qualifies or not, we will try our best to get it in the monthly bulletin board.  NOTE:  We try to get newsletter out between 1st-10th of the month.

Our only stipulations to post are:
  • that you are currently a member
  • you are not solicitating your business or asking for personal donations

Rose Szurko Ramage has offered to help us with this effort.  Thank you Rose!  We are excited and hope this fills a need in the community.

Please e-mail Rose
(with "SLWC Bulletin Board" in subject line)
if you are interested in posting something.
She will send you a template to fill in:

Why all the blue ribbons?

St. Luke Parish School

2012 National Blue Ribbon School

As the fall season gets underway, the St. Luke Parish Chancel Choir and the St. Luke Contemporary Choir will be returning to provide music for our Sunday Masses. The Contemporary Choir sings at the 9 am Mass, and our Chancel Choir sings at the 10:30 am Mass. If you've been considering becoming a member of one of our choirs, this is a great time to explore that possibility! We're just beginning our rehearsal season, and sang for the first time this season on September 30. Major celebrations that we'll sing for include the gala Mass celebrating the 125thAnniversary of St. Luke Parish, and of course, Advent and Christmas.

New members are always welcome, but if you'd like a chance to "try us out", why don't you join us in our rehearsals of some of the most beautiful music of the year?

To learn more about singing with either of our choirs, please contact:
