What Is Black Friday?
While Thanksgiving is an official holiday, the ay after is not. However, many workers take this Friday as a holiday making a nice four day weekend. Since 2000 this day has been labeled 'Black Friday' and has become one of the busiest shopping days of the year. 23.3 % of Black Friday shoppers arrive at stores by 5 am!!!! Will this be you this year???

A Thanksgiving Day Prayer Lord, so often times, as any other day When we sit down to our meal and pray
We hurry along and make fast the blessing Thanks, amen. Now please pass the dressing
We're slaves to the olfactory overload We must rush our prayer before the food gets cold
But Lord, I'd like to take a few minute more To really give thanks to what I'm thankful for
For my family, my health, a nice soft bed My friends, my freedom, a roof over my head
I'm thankful right now to be surrounded by those Whose lives touch me more than they'll ever possibly know
Thankful Lord, that You've blessed me beyond measure Thankful that in my heart lives life's greatest treasure
That You, dear Jesus, reside in that place And I'm ever so grateful for Your unending grace
So please, heavenly Father, bless this food You've provided And bless each and every person invited
Amen! --Scott Wesemann

Dear Women of St Luke Parish
The St Luke Women's Club is off to a great start. We are up to 127 members and going strong - THANK YOU for your support.
THANK YOU for participating in our first event last Friday night. We hope you enjoyed the festive evening and were able to see and catch up with friends both old and new. Our hats off to all that helped make the evening a success.
THANK YOU for signing up to make meals for parish families in need. If you are interested in helping and getting on e-mail notifications for families in need, we have included the information below in Recurring Newsletter Articles (or click here). A couple of people have approached us with items we felt needed some clarification:
On our membership registration letter we indicated one of our parish 'commitments' would be to donate $300 total to parish, school and religious education program. This means in the spirit of giving back the St Luke Women's Club as a whole will present and donate this amount to the parish annually. We are not asking each SLWC member to make a $300 donation - sorry for the confusion.
We also are asking for ideas on a collaborative creative effort to help the parish. For instance - a group to come together to make banners for the different ministries or baking sweets treats or creating goodie bags for new parishioners. These are just ideas, if you have an idea that you think would work - please let us know. Additionally we are looking for people to help with the Honor Guard idea. Please contact one of us if you are interested. In that same thought, there are several ways we have indicated that you can get involved throughout the newsletter, so keep your eyes open. We are planning to have a meeting sometime after the new year to recap some of these ways and to hear any ideas for the future. We will keep you posted.
Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the positive feedback we have received and realize we have a lot to work on as well, so if you have feedback, want to help, have an idea - we'd love to hear from you.
We want to wish you and your families a heathly and blessed Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
St Luke Women's Club Board Molly Hague Noreen Leavy Kathleen Parrilli Amy Hart Tomaso Pat Devereux Katie Planek |

HOW TO GET ON E-MAIL LIST FOR FAMILIES IN NEED OF MEAL SERVICE
We have come up with an easy way to accommodate the needs of families who will need meal service. If you are interested in helping and becoming part of this e-mail list you will need to follow these directions.
1. Sign up on line at https://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/648472/ - Begin at right hand side which says, "Interested in Becoming Member of this Community?". Fill in your personal e-mail address and follow prompts.
2. Your member request will then need to be approved by the 'community coordinator' Molly Hague. This may take a couple of hours - so please be patient.
3. Once you have been approved by Molly - you will be sent an e-mail link where you need to verify your personal e-mail address and password. Click on this link and it should take you to Lots a Helping Hands website.
4. After this step is done you are on this list and part of the St Luke's Meals Community. Any time there is a family in need of meals you will be e-mailed. You will get the specifics on the family, dates and meal details and will have access to the website and calendar where you can sign up for dates.
We understand that there will be times when you can help and other times when you can not. There is no pressure to cook for every family in need - there will be plenty of helping hands - we ask you do what you are comfortable with and this website and calendar will give that flexibility.

The Traditions and Trivia of THANKSGIVING!
In the United States, the modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition traces its origins to a 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. There is also evidence for an earlier harvest celebration on the continent by Spanish explorers in Florida during 1565, as well as thanksgiving feasts in the Virginia Colony. The initial thanksgiving observance at Virginia in 1619 was prompted by the colonists' leaders on the anniversary of the settlement. The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest. In later years, the tradition was continued by civil leaders such as Governor Bradford who planned a thanksgiving celebration and fast in 1623. While initially, the Plymouth colony did not have enough food to feed half of the 102 colonists, the Wampanoag Native Americans helped the Pilgrims by providing seeds and teaching them to fish. The practice of holding an annual harvest festival like this did not become a regular affair in New England until the late 1660s.
