Supporting Voices

Ryan Briere Foundation & Ryan's Run 5K
Child's Voice was very fortunate to be the beneficiary of a special event last weekend.  On Sunday, September 16th, the Ryan Briere Foundation celebrated their second annual Ryan's Run 5K and Kiddie Sprint.  This special event chose Child's Voice as the recipient of their efforts!

Over 300 runners turned out to participate in the 5K held in Century Park in Vernon Hills.  The beautiful weather and great spirits enjoyed the race, activity tables, music and entertainment.  It was a great day for a run!

The funds raised from the Ryan's Run will benefit the Audiology Center and the new Pediatric Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (PEHDI) Program.  This exciting new initiative allows the Audiology Center to perform the diagnostic testing needed following a Newborn Hearing Screening that receives a non-passing result.  The support from Ryan's Run will provide the PEHDI Program with the funding to purchase a loaner bank of hearing aids to allow instant fitting of children diagnosed with a hearing loss.  This immediate access to sound is irreplaceable as the child and family begin navigating the decisions and early intervention ahead for a child with hearing loss and their family.

The Ryan's Run will directly impact the families and children impacted by hearing loss.  We are so excited to have been chosen by the Foundation and are grateful for their hard work and support.  Thank you Ryan Briere Foundation and all those that supported Ryan's Run!

Getting to Know...
Child's Voice Board of Directors

Robert Harney, Board Member Board Member
Welcome to our newest member of the Board of Directors, Robert Harney.  Robert joined the Child's Voice Board last month thanks to the word-of-mouth from current board members, Barb Regnitz and Michele King.

Robert is founder of Open One Solutions, Inc., which is a next generation provider of telecommunications such as Voice over Internet Protocol, better known as VoIP. Open One works to make this technology simple for individuals and companies to implement into their daily lives.

Robert considers himself to be the chief cheerleader at Open One with the main goal of helping the company to create their vision and keep passion alive within their organization.  Since this company is in the "start-up phase," he wears many hats.  We're very glad he's made room for one more hat as a Child's Voice Board Member!

We are so excited to have Robert join Child's Voice and he is too!  When asked why he's involved, Robert shared, "...it is the amazing gift which Child's Voice offers to children coupled with the passion of Michele, the staff, the board and the parents.  What amazes me was my tour of the school where I was introduced to children from the young to the graduates - and to see the development and how the graduates blossom into outgoing inquiring minds. It is not often when you have an opportunity to truly assist in impacting a difference on a person's life."

When not hard at work, Robert enjoys the outdoors, travel, dining and theater.  When he had more free time, he was an avid race sailor and looks forward to finding time to race sail boats again.  He's also always had a passion for cars, having grown up in a "car family" and seeing firsthand the love his father had of cars of all types.

Mr. Harney resides in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago and is the proud uncle of eight nieces and nephews.
Robert, we're so excited that you've joined the Child's Voice family!  Thank you and enjoy!

Some great ideas and tips from our staff.

Preparing a meal, eating together, and cleaning up afterward are great times for families to foster a young child's social-emotional growth.  Children enjoy and learn helping skills as they participate in cooking activities.

Reading and following a recipe with a child is a great way to teach turn taking.  As your child helps carry out some steps of the recipe, you might say, "We are taking turns mixing the fruits together.  First it's your turn; then it's my turn."

Bon Appetite!
