Staying Ahead of the Curve
The mission of Child's Voice is to empower children with hearing loss to be successful in all educational and social settings by optimizing their listening, speaking and academic skills.
One benefit that occurs from this effort is to have a building full of children with hearing loss. For individuals looking to research communication matters or hearing loss, this is a "gold mine" of opportunities!
Child's Voice has been honored to partner with a number of educational institutions on research efforts to benefit the educational community. These partnerships include Northwestern, Purdue, Rush University, the University of Iowa and many more.
"This is a great way to do our part and contribute to the education of children," Dr. Michele Wilkins, Executive Director stated. READ MORE HERE.

| A Note From Dr. Michele...
This is always a bittersweet time of the year. We are so excited for our many graduates that will be celebrating a big milestone on Friday, but we are always less happy to say goodbye to these great kiddos that we've grown to know and love through their years here.
Our students learn many things at Child's Voice. One thing we have recently added to our curriculum is PBIS or Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. Our three standards are to be responsible, to be respectful and to be safe.
I was reading the paper over the weekend and saw the follow response in an advice column:
Question: Your 6-year old interrupts any conservation that doesn't include her. Are you giving her enough attention? Expert Advice: More attention, by itself, isn't going to cure your child of bad manners, which are at the core of perpetual interrupting. "We live in an instant gratification society: on-demand TV shows, what you want when you want it" say Mary O'Donohue, author of " When You Say Thank You, Mean It...and 11 Other Lessons for Instilling Lifelong Values in Your Children" (Adams Media). "Life doesn't always work that way, which is why it's so important to teach our kids to be patient and respectful. Interrupting is very disrespectful". So in this world of immediate response, emails, Smartphones and everything else, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of you for your part in making Child's Voice a success. Thank you for your part in keeping our doors open to serve these children. Thank you for the respect you have for children with hearing loss and for the difference you've made in their lives. -Michele

Getting to Know...
Child's Voice Board Members
Scott Drucker Scott is no stranger to Child's Voice. As a parent of a graduate, Scott has been a part of the Child's Voice family for over 10 years. His daughter Haley graduated from Child's Voice in 2003 and is now a very successful high school student! Shortly after Haley's time here, Scott joined the Board of Directors to serve the community of parents, staff, donors and the children that receive the lifelong benefit of their education at Child's Voice.
"As a parent of a child with hearing loss, I am reminded daily of the power of this school and how it equips children for a lifetime of learning, growth and success in the mainstream. Get involved, show up, volunteer whenever possible," Scott stated when asked why he stays involved and supports Child's Voice. Well aware of the many needs that the organization has, Scott has been on the board for a number of years and shares in the excitement of growing the Board of Directors and seeing many new faces getting involved.
When not toiling away for Child's Voice, Scott keeps very busy with work. He is the managing partner for the Drucker Group, a marketing communications and research company based in Chicago. His company uses research and insights to help clients develop new business, new products and new markets and communicate more persuasively with their customers.
For ten years, the Drucker Group has helped clients remove much of the risk associated with making decisions regarding branding, creative and marketing plan elements and has helped them to develop strategies that lead to harder working creative materials, more exciting marketing plans and ultimately sales growth.
Scott and Leslie, his wife of 19 years, live in Mount Prospect with their three children and pets. Amanda (17), Haley (15) and Jerry (6) and their many sports teams and activities keep the Drucker family very busy.
When Scott does find some down time he enjoys cooking and dining on the fruits of that hard work...particularly steak, chicken, pork and seafood. Yum!
Thank you Scott for all you do! We appreciate all your time and efforts to help Child's Voice!
