Recently "Heard" From...
We've Heard You!Child's Voice has been working hard to "hear" our families, friends and supporters.
Last year, we had a lot of feedback that families missed the "spaghetti dinners" of past years and the Gala was great, but difficult to afford in this tough economy. So...we've heard you...and we've made some adjustments. This fiscal year (July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012) we have postponed the Gala to November of NEXT YEAR, 2012.
This November the Family Reunion was held on Saturday, November 12th to gather families, alumni, current students and friends of Child's Voice and join in good fun and good conversation. The fantastic and hard-working committee secured 18 awesome raffle packages and winners were announced at the Reunion. Guests reconnected with fellow alumni and current families and enjoyed dinner, catered by Maggiano's Oak Brook. Over 200 individuals attended the sold out event and the kids were able to enjoy an onsite movie too! Many thanks to all who contributed to this great night. Together, the event raised over $10,000!

Alumni News We want your stories too!! Thank you to our Alumni that have shared updates on what they've been up to since leaving Child's Voice. Please CLICK HERE to email the Child's Voice team with your recent news and feedback! Thanks again.
Alumni Feature Alexa Berger graduated from Child's Voice in 2003. A freshman at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, Alexa is very busy and keeping in touch with many of her Child's Voice friends. READ MORE about Alexa.
From the Principal... This past month, in PI, our students spent a lot of time learning the story "Little Red Riding Hood." We've retold the story and have even role played different characters! Many classes explored the different versions of "L.R.R.H.". Our favorite one is when the wolf hides in the closet! We have also been spending a lot of time learning about all the yummy Thanksgiving foods we are going to eat next week. Hopefully your child will be able to identify many of the foods at your Thanksgiving table. Our PII students have been learning about: parts of the car, places in the neighborhood, and Thanksgiving. This week, our PII students attended their first "Book Buddies" or "Mainstream Fun" in the mainstream. We pair up with kindergarten and first grade students at Johnson School in Bensenville where our students integrate with their students and either read a story and work collaboratively on an activity or they participate in an academic class such as Math. We do this once a month with our mainstream buddies. This was our first mainstream experience for many of our PII students! Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Wendy Adler, Principal

Getting to know...Child's Voice Board Members
 | | Nancy Goble, Board Secretary |
Nancy Goble, Board SecretaryNancy joined the Child's Voice Board in 2008 after meeting Peter Schiltz, our Board Treasurer. Nancy's father had suffered from spinal meningitis and became deaf at the age of 55. He then received a cochlear implant. This first-hand experience with the impact of hearing loss both as a member of the family and seeing her father go through the process, caused Nancy's interest to learn more about the opportunities available for the children at Child's Voice. The more she learned, the more she wanted to get involved. Prior to her involvement with Child's Voice, Nancy was the Managing Director and Chief Accounting Officer at CME Group in Chicago. Following her retirement in June of 2008, Nancy found many ways to keep herself busy. She is now a part-time lecturer for the MBA program at the University of Missouri - St. Louis, serves on the Women's Leadership Council and Visiting Committee at the Ross School of Business for her alma mater, the University of Michigan and is investing loads of time in her biggest passion - her family. Her three adult children live in three different cities and she has taken many opportunities to visit them as well as her two adorable grandsons. When she's not traveling around to family, Nancy is also heading "up north" to spend as much summertime as possible in her native home of Michigan, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the outdoors. Nancy has continued her involvement with Child's Voice, even after she relocated to St. Louis last year from LaGrange. She is continually amazed at what the Programs provide and what the children are able to accomplish. Nancy recently shared, "It's a privilege to be a part of something as powerful as helping a child." Thank you Nancy - we're glad to have you on the Board! You continue to make a difference for our students and the future children empowered by Child's Voice! In Other Advancement News The Fall Appeal was mailed out on Halloween. Thank you to all the families and friends that have already responded! Child's Voice has big goals this year to continue our services and we can't do it without you! Thank you so much! Thank you again to the committee, families, friends and staff that supported the Family Reunion. It was great fun to see all the alumni, current students, EI kiddos and all the families get together and share updates and stories. We appreciate the support that made this evening a success! Additional thanks to the business and families that sponsored the event and donated items. Hope to see you at the next event!
