Fall 2011 - Special Conference Edition

NewsLine

Intelligent Transportation Society of Arizona

Greetings! ,

The ITS Arizona Board of Directors would like to extend our appreciation to you for attending the 2011 ITS Arizona 18th Annual Conference.

This year's conference at the Mesa Convention Center, "Streamlining ITS - How to Make the Most of What We Have", was a complete success, with 292 attendees, 31 vendor displays, and two dozen technical presentations.  Keynote Speaker James Pol, from the USDOT Joint Programs Office, kicked off the meeting by looking at trends in ITS Technology deployments, and the lunch speaker, Mark Pilwallis from Gannett Fleming, provided a status update on the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport's "Sky Train" Project.

Your participation at this year's Conference was instrumental to its success, so once again...THANK YOU.  We look forward to seeing you again next year!

President's Message

I am excited to serve as your 2011-2012 ITS Arizona President.  Over the past two years Past Presidents Steve Ramsey and Bob Steele worked hard to bring the organization financial independence. This year will be first in many years that ITS Arizona is managed entirely with volunteer service. This has created a solid financial footing that will offer the membership (that's you) more than ever!

ITS Arizona will be hosting at least three technical workshops in the next year and will be partnering with other organizations to provide you additional technical, networking, and social events.

In order to keep our momentum going in the right direction, I need you to send me feedback on events you attend and suggestions to improve the organization (event topics, newsletter, website, other activities).

I know the Board of Directors is committed to planning and executing a successful year of activities.  Are you?  Here are a few ways you can help:

  • Attend our events (most are free!)
  • Serve on a committee
  • Send in articles for the newsletter

Sincerely,
Yung's Signature

Chandler displays help commuters avoid freeway glut

East Valley Tribune

Message boards on some Valley freeways display how many minutes it will take for drivers to reach specific points ahead, but there's a limit to how much warning they can offer.

Because the signs are only on the freeway, drivers about to enter the highway have no way of knowing if they can expect smooth sailing or frustrating gridlock.  Click here to read article
