Attend a Public Meeting/Workshop About Bike Issues

Beginning next week, NOACA will be conducting several public meetings to gain input about northeast Ohio bicycle facilities. We'd like to know where you feel there cyclist are gaps in the bikeway network and what facilities you are more apt to use when biking. You do not need to register for these meetings. Please join the conversation and bring your bicycling friends along.

Bike Count Program Returns - Volunteers Needed!

taking counts NOACA staff is preparing to take bicycle counts in mid-September as part of an ongoing initiative to systematically record bicycle and pedestrian traffic on some of the region's  busiest roads. We're looking for volunteers from the biking community to help us record the number of bicyclists and pedestrians using these roads. The counts will take place on September 25-27 and September 29. NOACA will provide training for taking the counts. If you would like to volunteer, contact NOACA Multimodal Planner Marc Von Allmen.

Public Meetings for Special Needs Transportation

Do you, or does someone you know, rely on public transportation? Do existing facilities and services meet your needs or are there gaps in service? NOACA would like to hear your input about these services and how they can be improved. We will conduct public meetings beginning September 18 to gather information about transportation services aimed at older adults, individuals with disabilities, and low-income individuals.

NOACA staff will use the information collected at the meetings to assess unmet needs and update the Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan for Northeast Ohio, which identifies and prioritizes strategies, programs, and projects that address special transportation needs. If you have questions about the meetings or the Coordinated Plan, contact Meredith Davis or Gayle Godek.

Regional Household Travel Survey Steams Ahead

NOACA has passed the halfway mark for the Regional Household Travel Survey, which asks members of participating

households to record their daily trips and travel patterns using global positioning system devices (GPS) or travel diaries. Data gathered will help planners understand where and how people travel in our region, and will be used to forecast future trends and develop transportation projects.

To date, 1,985 households have returned completed survey data. If you're asked to participate in the survey, please say yes! If you are a transit user, the Greater Cleveland RTA will soon be launching an on-board transit survey to gauge the daily trip patterns of transit riders.

Comment on Proposed Enhancement Projects

The NOACA Governing Board will consider seven transportation enhancement projects in Cuyahoga and Medina Counties for implementation through the region's long-range transportation plan and Transportation Improvement Program. The projects are currently on NOACA's website for public review and comment. Projects include streetscape enhancements, pedestrian amenities and all-purpose trails.

NOACA Offers TLCI Civic Commons Webpage

NOACA also recently posted a road safety audit report for the intersection of East 152nd Street, St. Clair Avenue and Ivanhoe Road in the city of Cleveland. The report describes roadway conditions that are unsafe or hazardous, and provides recommendations that will improve safety and efficiency for motorists and pedestrians at the intersection. Many of the report's recommendations can be implemented quickly and at a low cost.
